Gus heard one of Shawn’s squeaky toys,and looked up from his computer fully expecting Shawn, but instead found Pierre Despereaux. He could feel his blood pressure mounting since every run in with him resulted in consequences they never asked for. He was sure today would be no different. He got up from his desk quickly. “Wait--No. You’re not suppose to be here. Aren’t you on trial?”

eyes narrow as expression shifts to one of pure irritation.   it’s a subtle,  but important, change from the base contempt he’d previously displayed,  and if there were any official record being kept?  he’d want it noted.  in fact,  he’d insist upon it  —  oh wait,  there is.  and he will.    “i don’t know what sort of game you’re playing here,  despereaux,”   to those who don’t know him,  his tone may come off as aggressive and angry  —  but he hasn’t even gotten started yet.  ohhhh no,  not even close.   “i’ll have you know,  that doesn’t count as a confession,  you still need to say the actual words.  you’re not pulling one over on me,  pal,  you may have charmed spencer  —  but that doesn’t mean a damn thing to anyone with more than one working brain-cell.”

“c’mon man,”   he nudges the other man with his elbow,  voice hardly above a conspiratorial whisper as a grin sit on his lips,   “i know you’re all set on being aloof and cool and everything,  but this is me!  it’s shawn!  your pal!  i helped you find the dragon with the treasure thing.  i thought i watched you die.  you can drop the act with me!  we’re buddies.  we’re...”   a contemplative pause follows,  his gaze focusing on a random spot past pierre’s shoulder,   “we’re  spencereaux.   shaw...ierre.  we’re like westley and that princess from that one movie with  INIGO MONTANA.”   the name is embellished with a terrible accent,   “prob’ly some others that don’t immediately spring to mind,  but you get it.  you get me.  you understand me,”

“i know that,  man,”   he goes as far as to nudge the other man with his elbow,  a broad grin on his lips,   “gus doubts you!  gus is the doubter!  do i seem like a doubter to you?  no,  no,  i’m a believer!  i believe in you!  you’re a badass,  and speaking of gus?  don’t tell him,  but if i ever needed a new best friend,  you’re the very tip-top of the list to replace him.  that’s how much of a believer i am.  i’m fully on the pierre depair.... desperea....  kanagroo?  no,  no,  that’s not it,  but whatever train it might be,  i’m onboard!
