Chikage is loathed to admit it.

There’s no way he could ever say such words out loud, especially not to Hisoka.

Besides, doing so won’t change anything because Hisoka already knows.

Hisoka knows it in the souvenir marshmallow cakes Chikage goes out of the way to bring back home despite disliking sweets. He knows it in how Chikage carries him back to bed even after threatening him again and again that he’ll leave him asleep and cold on the floor. He knows it with every kiss, every touch, every single time their eyes meet – he must know. Nothing has been clearer to Chikage, even though the realization has only become fully formed now. No, Chikage doesn’t think words are needed at all.

Words can never encompass their history, their bond, what they are.

But maybe now, right beside Hisoka in the bed they sleep together in, where his partner is peacefully unaware of all the machinations going on in Chikage’s head, he can whisper to the night a confession.
