Rosslyn boathouse / dock house (circa 1920) is the focus of this vintage postcard that I successfully won (Hurrah!) at auction after a parade of lost auctions. Once again bidding soared into the stratosphere, but this time I stayed in until the bitter end. (Heck, the photo is of our much loved boathouse, after all!) Actually, let’s revise that to *bittersweet* end because at just north of $1.5k I finally edged out the competition. It was an expensive victory, but I won! A vertiginous struggle until the last grain of sand tumbled through the hourglass, but at last this century old snapshot is back at Rosslyn, reunited with the sultry subject. I rest easier this morning celebrating another small victory while acknowledging that the demand for Rosslyn artifacts and historic Essex artifacts is increasing steadily and the values are rising mounting, mounting, mounting,… But why? What’s driving this mysterious upswing? Any ideas?
