Dial M for Murder is a really solid film, just a hair slow and expository for a little but soo good.  The acting, the murder, the crime its resolution; all really good.

This week I watch a movie that is pure perfection.

So Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a comedy, is it funny, sorta.  It’s not bad, and a lot of jokes aren’t funny anymore.  It’s your classic Hollywood comedy with fairly likeable characters.  Except for the best friend,

This week I’m really excited for this film.  I know nothing of it besides the fact that it stars Cary Grant, and that’s more than enough to pique my interest.

Forgot to post about last week’s film (Strauss’ Great Waltz), and I shouldn’t have cause it was pretty good.  Kinda funny, good story, and some really good camera work by Hitch too.  This week it’s a film I’ve never seen but have been looking forward to.  Mainly cause it’s the original The Man Who Knew Too Much (later remade by Hitch in 1956), and it stars Peter Lorre, one of my favorite classic actors.

“Hitch-A-Week”

With Frenzy Hitchcock goes back to his favorite trope of a man who is falsely accused.  Only this time the how graphic the crimes are is higher, and how likable of our protagonist is, is lower.  Nonetheless it’s a fine film and you can definitely see Hitchcock’s hands all over it.  I do want to live in his universes, wherein after a case is closed, the cops still work it just to be sure they got the right person.

As the year comes to a close, so does this movie marathon.  This is the last film of Hitch’s career, and thus the last Film of “Hitch a Week”

Film 52 of 52 - Family Plot

Okay, yes I want to find a woman to love me as much as Julia Andrews loves Paul Newman in this one.  Because she does some insanely idiotic things.  Yes, there is some horrible spy work going on.  And yes there a nice amount of Cold War propaganda, and an annoying Polish woman whose inclusion bogs down the latter half of the film.  But with all that said, this is an entertaining movie, with a good amount of intrigue going on that still holds up. This week I watch a movie I remember not feeling much like a Hitchcock film, and one I recall not really liking much at all.

Psycho is still the standard barrier for so many reasons.  I’ve seen it numerous times and often find things to still love and enjoy about it.  My biggest gripes are still the scene with the small town cop that gives away the major plot point; and the big exposition dump at the end.  But it’s still so good, and set the tone for better or for worse for so many future films.

This week we’re onto one of Hitchcock’s most popular films but one I don’t really love that much.  Let’s see how I feel after another watch.

North by Northwest is sooooo good; I keep wanting to describe it as Hitchcock’s take at a Bond film... If James Bond had no idea what he was doing, because that’s how is feels.  Cary Grant is so charming, the way the bad guys try to dispose of him, and how he’s chased all across the US all flow together so well.  And there’s so many good set pieces.  I could go on and on about Northwest which I’m confident in saying is still my favorite Hitchcock film.

Now we watch everyone’s favorite peeping Tom, in probably Hitch’s most popular film of all time.

So Vertigo really fell off for me in the back half.  That movie could just be called Jimmy Stewart is weird AF.  I think I would have a liked it a lot more if Judy didn’t write that letter that she then threw away.  If I could have believed I was watching Jimmy descend into madness.  Oh well, the music is still amazing, and there’s some fantastic visuals throughout.

This week I’m watching what I often call my favorite Hitchcock movie.  a movie that asked “what can a man do with his clothes off for twenty minutes?”
