Human Imagination Task Force showing at Goldsmiths VR Masterclass
Human Imagination Task Force is a ten minute, one-to-one experience that considers the transition between mixed reality, virtual reality and immersive theatre.
A 6-week project devised to sketch out the possibilities of this powerful medium, the piece expands upon the science of false memories, through a narrative fiction driven by the idea that our imaginations can be hacked.
Sensory inputs of smell, touch, sound and vision guide the participant’s emotional journey through a story that is an interactive experience without being a game – that is, the dramatic progression is driven by empathy and the ability to act, rather than a competitive desire to win.
Human Imagination Task Force turns a fragmented, critical mirror towards the implications of prolonged technological immersion and the potential psychological reactions arising from blurred realities.
In the context of fabricated realities it is becoming an increasingly important life-skill to both be open to speculative fiction as a means of exploring new solutions, while maintaining awareness that fiction – as legendary science fiction author Ursula Le Guin stated in her recent letter to The Oregonian – is invented.
Human Imagination Task Force will be showing as part of the Guardian’s VR Masterclass at Goldsmiths University, 16th March 2017.
