hitomi sat across from who she presumed to be her new partner, a 6’0” man with black hair and deep blue eyes wearing a pressed suit without a spot of dust. he was going to be fun.
“this is aki hayakawa,” makima began to speak. she switched between looking at hitomi and her father, a long time devil hunter named kishibe. “he will be your partner for the foreseeable future. i wanted to introduce you to each other sooner rather than later.”
hitomi bowed her head and spoke. “it’s nice to meet you, hayakawa. my name is hitomi fugawara. i look forward to working with you.”
aki did the same bow, his voice sending a small shiver down her spine. “you can just call me aki,” he assured. his voice was deeper than she expected it to be. “it’s nice to meet you as well.”
“right, aki.”
“you two will also be sharing an apartment, aki’s two bedroom can fit you both comfortably-” makima started before she was cut off abruptly.
“excuse me?” aki spoke up. “she’s going to be moving in with me?” he glanced between hitomi and makima.
hitomi’s face grew red as she nodded her head slowly. “yes, ma’am.”
“aki,” makima started as she turned her head towards him. “it’s no different than you staying with himeno. i’m sure you two will get along just fine,” she finished before smiling softly.
aki clenched his jaw and nodded reluctantly.
it’s not that he opposed his partner staying with him, it was pretty common among devil hunters. he’s just shocked that she had waited until they were face to face for the first time to drop that ball.
the meeting continued without a hitch, the two of them explaining the devils they had a contract with.
“the cat?” aki asked after she had finished listing them all. “there’s another public safety agent in special division four with a contract with the cat devil,” he explained. “her name is kobeni.”
hitomi nodded and smiled. “it will be a pleasure to meet her.”
