An Update Regarding Gender on the Wiki
(edited to add in a part that got left out during the multiple drafts of this message)
Hello! This is an update to the changes we made on the wiki a few days ago. To keep it brief:
We've heard your concerns and feedback, and we're making changes!
We'll return to prioritizing the English text for sources of character's gender/lack thereof, as well as what pronouns to use in article text. In addition, we'll start listing all genders chosen for every translation if it is different from English. This will improve the completeness of the wiki (adding trivia and notable data) while also emphasizing the original English as well as respecting the decisions made by translators.
In short: Ungendered characters in the English version will go back to using they/them and the "unspecified" gender as was the case before our big change.
(These will obviously be superseded by official, publicly verifiable developer confirmation, if any.)
Thank you to everyone who voiced their concerns and brought up valid points in critique of our system. As a small volunteer team of editors who have never had this… tumultuous of a change before, we really appreciate everyone who gave us feedback and patience while we figured out the best way to move forward. A lot of us are queer ourselves (myself included, hi! - Zigmatism), and as such the concerns of other people regarding these kinds of issues is really important to us. Rest assured that no decisions we make are ever done out of malice or intentional queerphobia, and we apologize for the harm it caused. The queer community makes up a large part of the Hollow Knight fandom, and we try our best to represent that.
Thank you all for your support in helping us make the wiki the best it can be!
