On 10 October, the Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw), Germany’s Federal Office of #Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, announced that the 5.56 mm #Heckler & Koch #HK416A7 has been selected as the new standard issue carbine for the Bundeswehr’s #specialforces. Under the Sturmgewehr Speziakräfte programme, the rifle will be introduced in the #Kommando #Spezialkräfte (KSK) special forces command and its naval equivalent, the Kommando Spezialkräfte Marine (KSM) as the (Gewehr 95 (G95). The total order is for 1,745 carbines. The BAAINBw expects 40 G95 low rate initial production carbines to be delivered to the Bundeswehr’s Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Waffen und Munition 91 (WTD 91) technical centre in Meppen in November for qualification tests and cross-checking of the compatibility of the weapon and accessories, and also for tactical testing with the special forces.
