are there any characters that inspired you to create sergia ? if so, what are the traits that build her as her own character ?
𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ; 𝐢 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 entire films than singling out like . . . one character out of the entire thing, if that makes sense. that being said, i have singled it down to like three ( one of which isn’t shown ) characters in films that have influenced sergia, in any way.
𝙼𝙸𝙰 𝚆𝙰𝙻𝙻𝙰𝙲𝙴, 𝙿𝚄𝙻𝙿 𝙵𝙸𝙲𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽 ( 𝟷𝟿𝟿𝟺 ): i feel like this one is more appearance - based as i was tempted to just icon uma thurman in this film & use her as sergia’s faceclaim, but she is where a lot of sergia’s larger details come from ––––– primarily her appearance / the influence of me using sherilyn fenn as sergia’s face claim. all i remember is that her character stuck to me because of the air around her . . . the way she looks at the other characters in the movie like she’s just achieved something, or she knows that she’s got them under her thumb.
𝚃𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙰𝚂𝙸𝙽, 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚆𝙸𝚃𝙲𝙷 ( 𝟸𝟶𝟷𝟻 ): this was a big one, definitely. i’ve been developing sergia for like two years now & this movie has always been an extremely large influence on who she is as a character. more specifically, the character BLACK PHILLIP. the incarnation of the devil, or some demonic entity, really set sergia’s entire being into place. the ending words of black phillip, where he begins to tempt thomasin ( ' 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐋𝐘 ? ‘ ) is one of my favorites . . . this is how i suspect the creature to be, when separated from its’ hosts, hell even before it became apart of his hosts, this is how it began its’ torment on sergia’s family : it promised them riches, wealth, opulence & they followed.
unlisted is a recent horror film named RAW which kind of is all about cannibalism. the film follows a french medical student who, after eating meat as part of a campus hazing, begins to crave it, specifically raw flesh. the movie has a lot of red lighting, a lot of those being a major aesthetical influence for sergia, as well as the scenes where the main character is just . . . eating raw meat straight from the packs.
❝ there is no need to romanticize hypothermia . ❞ he shivers . instead , he is overcome by a nostalgic longing for the tranquil neapolitan summers of his soccer-filled youth . his SSC NAPOLI scarf is draped more tightly over his shoulders . these are the moments he regrets not being a smoker like assente or pius xiii .
i remember pius xiii sending off cardinal ozolins to ketchikan , alaska with joseph brodsky ’ s words : beauty at cold temperatures is beauty . it contained a kernel of truth . as most [ not all ] of his words in retrospect . no matter the stringent , biting wind and my profound desire for naples at summer , 𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴 𝙸𝚂 𝙿𝙾𝙴𝚃𝚁𝚈 𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴 .

HE RESENTS THE STATEMENT AT ITS PREMISE, rejects what it represents. the part of him that wants to protest is not the part that doubts what lekteris has said to him, rather it is the part that believes that there is some truth to it, fears there is. but jack knows himself, and knows how to separate truth from those fears. he’s had long enough to learn it, enough mistakes behind him to draw from.
