One Step to Danger
Getting lost in the dragon’s new home could prove an easy task. Surprisngly, it wasn’t because of the vastness of it (even though that, too, played its role.) but the way it was shaped. Dolls and toys scattered around in every part of the cave. Hanged, sitting, or laying... stareless, joyful, or playing... Their presence turned the cave more and more into a riddle, a maze, but not because of their existence alone, but the fact that they seemed to have a ‘life’ of their own. Of course, that would be silly. A dragon seldom has a hoard of living things, but leather paws and sharp, steel claws could be seen, (only barely, for much did they blend in!) moving them around, changing them.
It was natural for a toy-like dragon to fiddle with toy-like things, but it served another purpose too. Hidden inside colorful dolls and toys, he watched what appeared to be a little girl. Inside his home. What could she want? The dragon was anxious, his painted face could not reveal it, but his eagerness to jump out of the pile of toys and confront this interloper gave away a hint or two. Thankfully, it was the Jester, a body of a masked little joker, attached to the body of the dragon like a limb with free will and mind, that held him back with chains, as the King, an entity similar to the Jester watched silently.
