This time around, Nathan is our guide on Lomax and Shirley Collins’ “Southern Journey.” Sixty years ago, the pair traveled through the American South, recording as many folk/blues/whatever musicians as they possibly could. Una gran favorita del inabarcable legado de Alan Lomax (más de 10.000 grabaciones) hechas a toda clase de gente de la calle y del campo, la gran mayoría ignotos, otros conocidos como es el caso de Jelly Roll Morton, Muddy Waters, Woody Guthrie o Leadbelly. Algunos de ellos escucharon por primera vez su voz grabada gracias a Lomax.

Arriba, Ed Young (flauta fife y voz) y Hobart Smith (banjo) interpretan "Joe Turner" en Williamsburg, Virginia. La grabación se hizo a primeros de los sesenta como parte del proyecto "Music of Williamsburg", con Lomax como supervisor musical. 

Lomax unió para la ocasión a los Spiritual Singers of Coastal Georgia con el batería de Bahamas, Nat Rahmings, el soplador de fife Ed Young, y el multiinstrumentista de Apalaches, Hobart Smith. “Joe Turner” se incluyó en el CD recopilado por Don Fleming, "The Alan Lomax Collection from the American Folklife Center", publicado el 31 de enero de 2012, aniversario del nacimiento de Lomax.
