BOFA premiere
SO, firstable I want to say that it's probably the 10 years old girl inside of me who is gonna write this and not the cinema student. The thing is, when it comes to Tolkien and PJ's trilogy, I lose my objectivity ah
I loved it and at the same time, I was a little disappointed. BOFTA is relating the famous battle of the five armies that happens at the end of the hobbit. Let me say that I would renamed it now by "Legolas against the five armies" aha, I mean, Legolas was totally insane, if you think you have seen it all. You are wrong. The guy is unstoppable. I was kind of surprised by how they made him so important in this movie. He really has a serious part. And without spoiling, let me say that if you always had questions about his family past, some questions will be answered
Where I've been disappointed is actually in the aesthetic Weirdly, I had never really felt uncomfortable with the special effects until this one. But some scenes looked so untrue to me, especially the orcs and the animals. I even had trouble with some actions scenes. What I loved in LOTR is how PG brings the gore, and the beauty at the same time, the middle-age dirt. In this one, I felt like it was too smooth sometimes. I couldn't really feel the blade, or smell the blood. It really bothered me. Everytime they was a close up of someone, a much little scale of shots, I was reassured. Caus' I could feel the character's emotions again. I was more into it.
I missed the locations too. The thing is, everything happens (most of it) in Erebor/Dale in this movie. And what I always loved with the LOTR trilogy's and TABA was that the characters are always moving in this beautiful middle earth. Which brings the famous huge shots of little people running into the wildness with some epic music playing in the background (I mean.. music is SO important in LOTR AND TABA.. so why can't I seem to remember some parts in my head after the movie, when watching DOS and BOFA.. ?)
Actually, like DOS, I missed the poesy and lyricism too. You can still feel how PJ wants to entertain you, wants to give you actions and laughs, despite letting you space for emotions, caus' everything is happening so fast. BUT OF COURSE, some scenes are just unbelievable, majestic and epic, let me say that i never saw an audience applause like that, every ten minutes, because they were so impressed.
Basically, what I loved, what made me so emotional, was the characters storylines. Thranduil, Thorin-Bilbo, everything was just so damn heartbreaking and I think it was really the strength of this movie. The characters, this adventure ending, those little moments of grace. This was were I found my jam. This is what reminded me how much I love Tolkien and how much I love this trilogy. And let's just say, that of course, i cried like a baby for hours. Because it felt like it was the end, because I saw 10 years of my life just flew by. Because what PJ gave us is the most precious story in the world adapted to screens. And cinema is magical.
P.S: That -thing we don't talk about that much because too much spoilers is not really like in the book. Metaphorically it is. But not really ? So Tolkien purists are probably going to scream.
Now I'm just going to watch TABA and cry (<-- still remains my favorite of the trilogy). Bye ! (sorry for my english too :3) annnnd if you have questions you know where to find me. If you come anon, pls, avoid the spoilers !
