Fun Hobbies to pick up this summer!
I actually have always had hobbies so heres some fun hobby ideas for this summer!! Some of them will be media consumption, some might require buying a few things and some may require going outside with other people but a lot of these will be free to do at home, alone, for those days when you're super bored at home!!!
Honourable mentions for hobby ideas: - sewing - birdwatching - graphic design/ make posters or magazines etc. - sudoku - flower arrangements lol - embroidery - book binding - ceramics/ pottery - explore ur city/ town/ area- find places you wanna go and go - try new cuisines, maybe do one new cuisine per week - watch short films - go to the theatre- doesnt have to be expensive theres usually cheap community theatre in the local area ran by communiy centres etc and can be very fun -learn how to dj?
comment any extra suggestions <333
i forgot how much i loved puzzles
There is a house near me that has the biggest Little Library I have seen. There's a huge shelf in front of their house for books and there are sections for non-book items. That's where I found this puzzle.
I used to love puzzles as a kid, mainly because I didn't have cable growing up, but it was still a fun thing to do. As I've grown older, I've gotten bored and lost interest in them. I just stopped playing.
Lately, I've been seeing videos of people competitively solving puzzles and it reignited my interest. I've thought about buying a puzzle but they are surprisingly expensive, so I imagine the push I felt when I found this cute puzzle.
It was only 350 pieces, I completed it over three days and watched three movies. At some points of this process, I felt so locked in, but others, it was just something fun to do.
I really enjoyed myself and going to keep an eye out for any free or cheap ones I can find. I think it would be fun to restart my puzzle journey.

i WILLL be hobbymaxing this summer!! A few new hobbies I wanna try are: cooking, making bracelets with thread and being able to read patterns, reading, makeup and hairstyles, and crafting more because I stopped a while ago. I’ve saved some crafts on TikTok like making Pusheen squishies, hair clips, and especially paper mache. I loveee snoopy so I’m gonna try and make a paper mache snoopy. I need to find more cool hobbies, I DONT want to be on my phone this summer at all

Oil painting class no. 2 - still life, black and white value study.
I got a little too obsessed with doing everything perfectly and then I completely lost track of my paintbrushes and shades, so I didn't finish the exercise but here is the half-finished product...
I struggled a lot with sighting. For some reason my brain just could not compute how I was supposed to be measuring things accurately with my paintbrush. I got really frustrated because all of my measurements seemed wrong, so in the end I gave up and just went with the vibes. It worked out okay, but I'm kind of concerned that it'll become a bigger problem later if I don't nail down the basics now. Anyway, the teacher didn't seem too concerned, so I guess it's fine.
I might try to finish this during the week so I can practice with the values some more, but otherwise I'll see what happens next week!
Oil painting class no. 1 - black and white tonal study.
I had a lot of fun at my first oil painting class. It's nice to be investing in something creative again. It's a huge privilege to be able to spend money on this right now, so maaaybe this repays like 2% of the mental damage I took from working in a tough industry for so long.
These are the squares I drew and coloured in (a study to get a feel for the different tones / gradients of light and dark you can use in a painting):
These are the notes I took:
There are cool people in the class too, so maybe I'll even make a friend?
This is what my pallet looked like after the class:
I'm looking forward to the next one. ^_^
how i feel picking up random hobbies instead of finding a job
