Okay, first of all, how dare you for enabling me and second of all, the headcanon-ing we did prior to me actually answering this ask was so damn perfect and needs to be read by everyone, so everything in italics is yours and the rest is me haha

Hey! I just want to say I have your ask and I’m trying not to cry haha, I will write my response as soon as I can, I just have to compose myself first haha, sterek everything always makes me emotional lbr.

Ohmygod thank you I’m so exited for what you’re going to write !! I was thinking about the prompt at breakfast and started to cry in to my cereal lol so I feel you there. I just think about them being happy all the time and their solid proof of commitment to each other and how Derek’s wolf would be happy with a mate and how Derek will be happy and stiles will be happy and how they all deserve to be happy because they’re so amazing and love each other so much and all the stuff that they’ve been through won’t even matter anymore because they’re right here together unified as one and ohmygod I’m crying again omg stop me they’re so in love they’re so in love I’m crying I can’t ohmygod

DID YOU HAVE TO GO THERE, literally I think my heart is going to break from all the love, just them being comfortable with each other after all the shit in beacon hills, finally realising that yes, no matter what happens, “I will always find my way back to you”, them being happy, surrounded by the Hale pack is a thing I strive for and no one can tell me it’ll be any different!! They just love each other so much okay?!

SORRY NOT SORRY. Them being comfortable around each other is like my kink, like, imagine them cooking in the morning with a soft beam of sunlight illuminating their bodies in the kitchen as Derek cooks breakfast and stiles is definitely not (not) napping on Derek’s shoulder with his arms curled around his torso having a tender moment before ERICA BARGES IN BECAUSE THAT DIDNT HAPPEN AND SHES ALIVE AND WELL AND HAPPY WITH BOYD AND EVERYONE IS OK AND THIS IS THEIR PACK!!! P A C K !!!and sterek are like the packs parents even if Scott is the alpha, they’re the mom and dad (whose who is up to you) and their bond is so profound that even that non supernatural creatures can feel it and AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!! STEREK!!!!!!!!

Other supernatural creatures being able to tell how powerful their bond is, is like such a FAVOURITE THING OF MINE AND I WILL CRY ABOUT IT FOREVER, I love the idea that Derek becomes really tactile with the pack, like he’s constantly hugging Erica and pressing kisses to her hair and Stiles starts to do the same, so she has such a lovely family around her that helps heal all the shit she we through at school before she turned and they will all be so close! And at night he just hugs Stiles close and realises how much he loves everyone and couldn’t have wanted a better life than he has now, the love of his life in his arms and a new family he can turn to whenever he needs them. I JUST WANT DEREK HAPPY OKAY

Derek starting to play sports again, Derek thinking of his family with fondness instead of guilt, Derek trusting people absolutely again, Derek admitting he likes to bottom and wants to try it since that time with Kate (that ones for me, bottom Derek is everything), Derek and stiles making /love/ because that’s what it is and looking into each other’s eyes and smiling so their faces crinkle up and they laugh and they’re so at peace, Derek having bad days because he’s a victim of ptsd and stiles being there to make him feel better but also allowing him to have time on his own to work his own stuff out, Derek having days so filled with happiness he has to cry!!And Erica feeling accepted !! Erica having a pack and a home and a life she can truly enjoy with people who love her and a sense of meaning and finally thinking of herself as someone more than an epileptic but as a /person/ and just being happy !!!!!OHMYGOD !!!!!!!!

Oh gosh, everything you just said, I /need/ that in my life okay, Derek having Stiles as his anchor for when he’s feeling down or having a bit of an off day and Stiles understanding and respecting that sometimes Derek needs to go to that quiet place to heal, but it isn’t as bad as it used to be and he doesn’t feel as guilty anymore and he knows, he just /knows/ that Talia would be looking down at him all proud because she couldn’t have wanted a better turn out for him. Stiles plans little things for the anniversary of their death, but also a little something on all the Hale family birthdays to commemorate them, because they would still be such a big influence in their life even with them not being physically there (I mean in an ideal world I’d love for them to be alive, but I’m running with the idea that they aren’t for now) and Derek would fall just that little more in love with this man who loves and cares for him in a way he hasn’t felt before, not with someone he’s /in/ love with you know? And I’m not gonna carry on because I’m actually going to answer your ask properly with what will come next after that ;) oh gosh, I’m so emotional, I’m not crying I just have sterek in my eye (I lied, my heart can’t handle this right now *cries*)

Okay, so after all that emotion, I feel like once the supernatural had finally settled in Beacon Hills, Stiles and Derek had been going strong for a fair few years now, Stiles went to college, tried to come home as often as he could and Derek was mentally with him through it all. In the time it took Stiles to finish college, Derek worked to rebuild the Hale house, wanting to find a new place for his new family to live in. In time Erica and Boyd decide that they wanted to find a place together, but the Hale house will always be /the/ house they all return to by default. Scott is an alpha now too and even though they are both alphas, they work together to think about what’s best for the pack.

Stiles and Derek build a decent life together in the Hale house, even though its constantly overrun with everyone at some point, they still find some time for themselves. I think Derek’s pack instinct would have wanted to ask Stiles to marry him for so long, but he didn’t want to put any pressure on Stiles. There is still a small part of him that worries he isn’t enough and he wouldn’t ever want to put Stiles in a position to actually tell him that maybe they’re good for now, but not forever, which makes me sad because of course Stiles wants him forever.

Anyway, I think Stiles would listen to everything Derek has ever mentioned about his family, it’s a sore subject a lot of the time, but Derek has come so far and can actually smile at a lot of memories instead of it being clouded in anger and guilt. Coming back to who would propose, I think Stiles would do it, secretly knowing that maybe Derek wants it to, but is too scared to ask. He’d make it as perfect as possible. Cora mainly lives in South America still, but she does come and visit very often, and she and Stiles do become quite close friends. She knows that Stiles will always want the best for Derek and it makes her happy that her brother is happy.

When Stiles mentions to Cora that he wants to propose to Derek, Cora is ecstatic, knowing Derek will of course say yes. He finds out from her where Derek’s dad proposed to Talia and decided that’s where he wanted to propose to him. He felt it only fitting as he wanted to do something sentimental and just to emphasise to Derek how much he wants this forever.

He gets a ring ready and has the triskelion put on it (because I am a sucker for their rings to have the Hale symbol on it) so it has that extra personal touch.

He’s a bag of nerves when the day actually comes round though, his hands are sweating and he doesn’t quite know how he’s managed to keep this a secret for the past month. Everything is perfect in his life, Derek’s happy, the pack is happy and that makes Stiles so incredibly overwhelmed to be a part of something so amazing.

Derek doesn’t suspect a thing, its near evening when Stiles asks if he wants to go on a walk with him, it’s a full moon tonight and he knows that Derek likes to go for a run with the pack to loosen up a bit, so Derek is happy to have the next few hours with him. They walk in silence, their hands laced, just going through the forest surrounding the Hale house. They walk for an hour before Derek starts to feel the familiarity of the place, stronger than the surrounding area. They find a tree, one that had fallen and has moss and flowers growing on it, Derek knows the tree well, he comes to sit out here a lot on his low days so that he can clear his head a bit and think out loud to his parents.

Stiles motions for Derek to sit down and he does, little crease in his brow as Stiles stands still.

“What are you doing?” Derek asks, looking up at his boyfriend, loving the way the low light is embracing his body as he stands there with a small nervous smile on his face.

“I thought I’d bring you out here because I know it’s a special place for you. To anyone it’s just a tree, but I know there’s more  to this place than anyone knows, It’s a place for you to come and think and I also know it’s the place that your dad proposed to your mom” Stiles looks down at Derek earnestly and Derek’s breath catches in his throat as Stiles moves forward and kneels in front of him, placing his hands on Derek’s knees.

“I know we’ve been through a lot and I honestly don’t know what my life would be like without you in it, maybe a little less sarcasm but I suppose that can’t be helped” Stiles winked, making Derek smile fondly, his boyfriend is such an idiot. “I know that you will always be there for me and I will always be there for you, I mean I had a whole speech planned out, have done for weeks and now I can’t remember anything.” Stiles laughed, Derek bought a hand up and cradled Stiles’ cheek, Stiles leaning into the familiar touch.

“Okay, now seriously though, I’m losing my mojo, what I really want to say to you is that I love you and I have loved you for so long now and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to stay with me forever, you know, if I finally put a ring on it?” Stiles asked, pulling the little box out his back pocket and opening it in front of Derek.

“Stiles” Derek breathed, feeling the tears hit his eyes a little, trying to gather his thoughts; this man right here means so much to him that he doesn’t even have the words to speak right now. Voicing emotions have never been Derek’s strong point, but after everything they’ve been through since they’ve been in each other’s lives, how could he ever say no to him?

“I take it you like it then?” Derek asked, pulling himself together, Stiles’ face faltering a little, scrunching up in confusion.

“What?”

“Isn’t that how the song goes, if you like it then you should’ve put a ring on it?” Derek faux pondered, looking away slightly, trying to make sure he didn’t smile.

“You’re such an idiot” Stiles laughed, shifting a little, “Do I have an answer or are you just gonna keep me hanging?”

“Yes, obviously yes” Derek said, moving off the tree and kissing Stiles, knocking him to the ground. A mumbled ‘ow’ makes Derek pull back and allow Stiles the room to move his legs out from under himself properly.

“I really do love you, you know” Stiles murmered, moving his free hand to run his thumb across Derek’s cheek.

“I know and I love you too”

They stare at each other a bit longer before Derek leans back in and kisses Stiles once more, this time slower, exploring each others mouths like they’d done so many times before. Derek would never get bored of kissing Stiles, each kiss was so familiar yet slightly different at the same time, the feeling of home and comfort and pack. Stiles was it for him, the one who understood him in ways that other people didn’t, why wouldn’t he want to show everyone how much he means to him?

He never expected for it to be Stiles who proposed, he feels like he should have done it, but it wouldn’t have been as perfect as this. Things ended up getting a little more heated than intended on the floor, Derek putting his hands under Stiles’ shirt and dragging his nails down his side so slowly causing Stiles to shiver. They both separated their mouths and were breathing heavily, Stiles’ eyes were dilated and he was licking his lips but something clicked in him and it made him shift a little, moving his hand.

“Do you want to put the ring on?” Stiles asked, holding up the little box Derek had completely forgotten about.

“Yeah, of course.” Derek moved off Stiles and pulled him up, holding his hand out for Stiles to slide it on his finger. It was perfect, Derek noticed the little triskelion with a small gem in the middle, it reminded him of his mother’s wedding ring and that’s when it hit him properly. He felt his eyes fill up as he stared at this ring, then looking back up at Stiles who was smiling at him with the most beautiful smile he had the pleasure of seeing. He knows he made the right choice having Stiles in his life, they completed each other in ways no one would ever imagine and his life right now, with Stiles, his friends, his family, his pack, well, its the best it has ever been.
