HC + Don Quixote

Send me  “HC”  + a word and I’ll write a headcanon about it.

don quixote is a story i myself have been trying to get my hands on, i don’t know like what forms of media it comes in bc i’ve never bothered to actually search search for it ( tsk tsk @ me ). i know for a fact one of the writers at some point mentioned that rein is of that archetype, so you’ll have to bear with me in saying this is about to be based on anything i’ve gathered from google and specifically wikipedia.

for starters, it says don quixote lost his sanity to take up chivalry and all that jazz. i get it and i see how rein’s based off of that, and i apologize that my portrayal isn’t spot on to that. i can’t even beat myself up over that anymore tho — i honestly don’t like the thought of making rein a big ancient ( man he’s really old fleshing out his timeline is a nightmare ) mindless fool who drivels about that shit. the implication i find more often than not is that he’s lost his senses, as well. a lot of portrayals in the reinha.rdt tag make him like a pants on head idiot, and i hate that shit. 

i take it more by a romantic direction; i think he just sees the world in a beautiful way, a creative way. he’s always been raised to a high moral type of manner, with a strong spirit and a will for everything to go right. in my opinion, the crusaders are what molded that into the specifics of him being a literal knight in shining armor, with that sort of comedy about hes a knight to rid the world of evils. i think he’s just the opposite of a realist because he believes that shit’s possible, anything’s possible, and giving any difficulties or obstacles the benefit to say that’s improbable we can’t beat that is boring and is gonna make it stay that way. it ain’t gettin beat.

he’s got some rose colored glasses on his face and he sees everything in a positive light. it doesn’t make him stupid. i do think i could do with making him maybe a bit ‘ crazier, ’ so to speak ( i’m kinda touchy with the word cuz people have poked me before about how insanity doesn’t restrict normalcy, which i agree with, but for the sake of this i’m implying against that ), but i just prefer the thought of that like. he knows what’s real. he knows all too well the brutal reality of the world, super well that a man like him copes in the brightest way possible. he smiles and laughs and makes things big and theatric for the sake of taking away from the gruesomeness of it all. people die but he has a spirit, because going into it like im gonna die is gonna kill him. he could simply never bring himself to that.

he’s almost like an actor, in a sense, but with less depth. he genuinely believes in what he does, but in some cases, it’s almost a bit of a role he plays. like a suppression, of sorts. put on the smile and make the laughs to see his comrades happy. he can be real as hell when he needs to, but there’s other people in this world to do that. let there be relief in some corner.

i guess this sorta strayed from the topic at hand, but the general feeling i got from hearing he’s a don quixote character seems to be that he’s stupid and insane ( SPECIFICALLY the tag’s portrayal don’t even fuckin get me started ) and i just. i hate that. i think realistically, after all the shit the man’s been through, i think he’s just retreated into creative parts of his mind that put up these great facades of like fighting dragons and shit and knights and armor because he can do that. his mind works with it. he loves it.
