You’re living your life as usual: you wake up, do your regular routine, check your phone, and boot up genshin at one point.
Everything is pretty much normal, y’know? Except...
Was this a bug? There’s a character missing-- Your favorite character too, at that. They’re mentioned in the game, but you can’t seem to find evidence of them being a playable unit, which is weird because you swore they were (or at least, was going to be, after seeing some leaks).
You start to panic and get weirded out, understandably. Your friends that play the game agree that the character was mentioned before, but otherwise give you odd reactions when you talk about their skills and burst and voice actors. They jokingly ask you if you’ve made an elaborate character sheet for them, or if you’ve encountered some top-secret leak overnight.
Eventually, eventually: there’s a knock on the door, and you weren’t expecting anyone at the moment so you try to peek out the window or peephole to check.
Lo and behold, your favourite character, who you’ve been trying to prove the existence of, is right there behind that door.
They aren’t wearing their in-game outfit, or sporting any weapons - rather... they look fairly regular. It’d be easy enough to just pass them off as an attractive stranger.
...Yeah, right. A stranger? - What the hell is this?
When you open the door, they greet you as if you were an old friend - and somehow, despite being pretty sure this person was a game character just yesterday, you feel a sense of familiarity with them, too.
At some point you ask them who they are, to which they simply assume you’re joking but thankfully answer. Your follow that up with more questions, eventually prompting their worry; were you okay? Did you have a nightmare, or maybe some weird case of amnesia?
No, you didn’t have amnesia. If anything, something went wrong with the divine somewhere and somehow this is happening to you now.
Your favourite character-- No, your... Best friend, gives you a recap of your relationship for the past year or so, and how you guys met - things like that. You’re a little distrustful of the situation so you ask them questions about yourself to see if their answers would match what you knew as the truth - and they did. They could name your recent interests, your usual hobbies, even your little habits and quirks - and when you questioned about theirs, you found that most of what you knew of them from the game was true here as well.
More plot points/summary of what’s going on:
Your best friend may or may not have vague romantic feelings toward you, or you guys might actually be dating, or! this could be completely platonic too, it’s up to you~
So what happens is that they’ve got no clue that they’re from genshin, at least, for now. In about a year’s time, they will remember. Not everything, as in a sudden flood of memories, but enough to realize that this wasn’t their world- wasn’t their original world.
They tell you eventually. You, a bit later, will get a dream about how it was possible for them to return to their world, however... There were consequences for this: if they were to return, they could never come back. You also had the chance to go with them, but you would lose all your memories and start over anew in Teyvat, leaving everything here behind.
They also had the choice to stay, but would as a result have a shortened lifespan and be plagued with dreams of memories from Teyvat. You would also have the same if you chose to go with them to Teyvat, having dreams of your old world.
