Holiday Mixtape 2018

So, my artist kayanem and I have decided on a Saturday posting day. So block out a bit of time for a 37k holiday case fic. It’s tentatively called: The Haunting of Hilltop Mall. In it, Cas, Dean, and Sam take over a massage studio in a mall in order to investigate what may be a haunting. Turns out that Cas if very good at massage, and Dean is very frustrating. The hunt, their feelings, and life in a too small motel room, make for some interesting progress in the long slow burn that is the Dean and Cas romance. Hope you all enjoy it.

Holiday season!

This is my stand-alone piece for this year’s Holiday Mixtape.

I am dedicating this to the awesome @jojodacrow, one of the mods for the Dean/Cas Big Bang and the Destiel Tropefest. She likes mistletoes kisses, so here is one!

She and @museaway did a fantastic job running both challenges, making the whole experience a really fun one.

I was honored to work with the lovely @scones-and-texting-and-murder​ and create art for her 2017 Holiday Mixtape story, By the Hearthside. There’s holiday sweetness, DeanCas, and KITTENS. You’ll love it!

The snowy cabin picture is made from thirteen pieces and three different weights of paper, and is laid on a light blue tissue paper background. It’s all backlit from below and photographed. 

To create the cabin, I drew a cabin and woods scene, then traced over it to make patterns for the layered paper pieces. I then laid this paper over the final paper I would use for the cabin and cut it out with a blade. I used a bowl to trace the initial circle, because I am a professional ;)

The lights are all LED so I can fuss around with them for a while without anything getting dangerously hot! Which is good because I’m using tissue paper over lights to make the colored light.

Lights include hiking headlamps, closet stick-up lights, table lamps (through the fabric sides), bicycle headlights, little fairy lights or LED candles taped to the bottom of the glass. I used many of the same lights for the animated gif Christmas tree scene. The flickering fire is done by using flickering candles taped to the bottom of the glass. The camera I was using didn’t have a video feature so I took a bunch of photos in quick succession and used a movie program to turn them into a video…which I could then turn into a gif pretty easily. 

The tree topper was fun and easy to make. Just like the story, it’s a toilet paper tube, blue and black crayon, paper, and tin foil. It’s all just taped together and is currently on top of my Christmas tree, bringing me daily joy.

From Your Secret Santa, 25K

Dean and Sam have had a tough year. Their dad died, leaving them parentless, and Dean has had to pick up the slack to make sure his little brother is fed, clothed, and has a roof over his head. To say that Dean is not in the Christmas spirit this year is an understatement.

That is, until Dean gets a secret Santa who wants nothing more than to make the brothers’ Christmas a cheerful one. The mysterious gift-giver apparently plans to do that with twelve days of cheesy poems, dorky activities, and, okay, some actually really nice presents.

Dean hates to admit it but before the twelve days of Christmas are over his mood is effectively turned around. The only thing is, he’s pretty sure his secret Santa is actually more of a secret admirer. It could be anyone from the Roadhouse trivia teams but there is only one person he wants it to be - his brown-haired, blue-eyed, oh-so-sexy best friend who has been there for him through everything and who he has a major, secret crush on.

Inspired by the classic Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
