Legend, Holiday World
i've wanted to go to holiday world since i was little and saw a brochure for it at a rest stop. was it worth the wait?
The Good
the ride ops and maintenance were running the place like military officers. four(!) people checking restraints on coasters and two trains wherever possible. i got in line for raven right at a sign that said "20 minute wait" (which on its own seemed impossible) and waited 15 minutes.
thunderbird and the legend are great supporting coasters to...
voyage, the best wooden coaster i've ever been on and definitely a top 5 overall. every hill lifts you out of your seat and the first half alone is a star coaster. then you get to the second half and lateral forces that shouldn't be possible get added to the mix.
free parking and unlimited free soda. you will pay for it at the gate but it is worth it to not wait in line every time you need water.
the park is very clean.
the landscaping is excellent and fits with the nearby hoosier forest well.
The Bad
broken effects on gobbler getaway mar what is otherwise a solid dark ride.
the theming has a... very limited perspective. they got the basic vibes right but why do they have a lewis and clark ride. why is there so much religious imagery and music IN THE ENTRANCE AREA. the thanksgiving area also feels weird to me. maybe i'm too woke, but this is the most "white-protestant-as-default" place i've ever visited outside of a church. not theme park. place. i lived in rural georgia for four years.
The Ugly
the flat ride collection is really really bad. they've got a small drop tower, a small starflyer, and the usual suspects. there are three rides in the kids' area with no matching holiday theme.
to be fair to the theming, it matches the crowds. i heard a slur here.
honestly a great park despite its clear shortcomings, and one that seems to be getting better judging by the vibes of cannonball and the good gravy area. absolutely worth a day trip.
