No doubt: celebrating the holidays will inevitably look a little different this season –but it doesn't have to be dull or boring. So the next time you've got a festive virtual gathering on your calendar, have your hair looking polished and put together with these three easy-to-follow styles by Nat South and Vanessa Quiles of Takamichi Hair.
If you have short hair…
Nat South recommends R+Co's Aircraft Pomade Mousse for shorter hair. "It's an easy way to style it and look pulled together with minimal effort," she says. First, dispense a small amount in the palm of your hand and run it through damp hair. But instead of relying on a brush or comb, South says to use your fingers to "pull, lift, or scrunch your hair to the desired look" as you're blowdrying.
Because there's no right or wrong way to do this, let yourself get creative, and some have fun.
If you have curtain fringe…
One of the biggest hair trends of 2020, curtain fringe (bangs), is having a major moment. And why? "When they are styled correctly, they can make a messy ponytail or topknot look like a trendy style," explains South. Start by sectioning out the bangs and dampening them with a water bottle. Then, with a round brush, gather the entire fringe and blowdry until just the roots until dry. Continue with the brush and blow the hair back and away from the face until the bangs are thoroughly dry. Finally, allow the hair to cool on the brush for about 30 seconds before releasing the hair. It should fall nicely and frame the face in a flattering way.
If you have straight or slightly wavy hair…
For this look, Quiles says to begin by parting your hair from the center down to the nape and creating two sections.
Generously mist both sections with a volumizing spray like R+Co's DALLAS Thickening Spray, and comb until they're smooth. Then, twist both sections away from the face. Begin with one section, and blowdry as you're twisting away from the face.
Keep the dryer's nozzle pointing down while you move from the roots to the ends until the section is totally dry. Then, repeat the process with the second section. "Once both sections are dry, shake them out using your hand, and there you have your look," explains Quiles.
