Robots. Why did it have to be robots? They basically took every one of Spider-Man's special powers, the super strength, speed, enhanced reflexes and put it in a shiny metal (and practically indestructable) package. Oh, and there were the laser eyes. Can't forget the laser eyes.
In a way, it might have been a blessing in disguise, at least where Deadpool was concerned. The technically-retired merc had been complaining about getting antsy having to restrict himself to non-lethal means of conflict resolution, but when your opponents weren't alive to begin with... well, he hadn't wasted any time in cutting loose.
The lab they'd stumbled upon seemed to have a nearly unlimited supply of automatons though, and before long, Spider-Man could feel his body starting to weaken under the strain. It wasn't entirely a surprise- the last several months had him reassessing his limits as he found his body making new demands of him. There was no denying it- he just couldn't superhero the way he'd used to.
Perhaps that was why he was leaning hard against the wall, bits of his chest and shoulders exposed where the snapping metal talons had grazed him, struggling to catch his breath. He slid down to the ground, leaving a tell-tale red smear against the cold metal.
He hadn't been eating enough.
It was only through half lidded eyes that he saw Deadpool kicking over the last of the deactivated machines. Anything worth doing was worth doing well, of course- and the man was nothing if not thorough. A half smile crept across Peter's face just as the edges of his vision began to blur.
"...Wade."
