In the beginning, the alcohol was helping numb the paranoia and curb the guilt. But drinking wasn’t doing the trick anymore. He was starting to have these hallucinations, visions. His father was standing on the side of the road, his head bleeding, staring at Jaxon as he drives past him to the beach. He wondered if Alesia was experiencing the same things. If Jeffery’s ghost was keeping her up at night. If he was standing in the crack of her closet, skulking past her bedroom door, and whispering in her ear when she closes her eyes. Whatever Holly wanted to tell him was only making this feeling worse. What did she find out? What did she know? As he pulled up to the beach, he could see her in the distance. She was heaven incarnate, but people like him don’t deserve peace or redemption. Which is why sooner or later, he’ll have to let her go. “Too much sun will make your muscles soft, ice dancer.” He teased, stepping in front of the sun. Jaxon had a habit of putting on a face in front of certain people. He didn’t want them to see how damaged he truly was.
