I viewed @Bonhams ‘Wonders of the Galaxy’ auction this afternoon. Some fantastic Hollywood artifacts with a little bit of something for everyone. An assortment of props, posters, scripts, photographs and costumes from early horror and science fiction films right up to James Bond and Star Wars were on view. Elizabeth Taylor’s wig and jewelry from Cleopatra along with John Wayne’s director’s chair back embossed ‘Duke’, and even the illuminating blaster pistol from A Forbidden Planet were only some of the highlights. Probably my favorite item was a rocking chair gifted by Katherine Hepburn to Spencer Tracy. Upon his death she continued to use it for curling up in and reading scripts. So much to see, learn about and just take in. Unfortunately the one item I actually went there to specifically view had been removed from the sale by it’s consignor. It was an MGM door knocker in the shape for the iconic lion’s head. Maybe the owner had regrets about letting it go. I know I would if I owned it.
