a memory that made him what he is: the very first time his father took him with him on a case
taekwoon was just a young boy when he was first taken out on a case with his dad. what ignited the passion for detective work that he still holds was that first day. at the time, he had requested that he come along with his dad and his stubbornness showed off his persistence. his dad looked at his son with a laugh and nodded. "alright, you can come along."
taekwoon happily clapped. "do i get a gun too?" he asked, grinning. his dad claimed no but when they were in the car, he handed taekwoon a fake gun with a secretive grin. "just don't tell mom."
taekwoon nodded and excitedly wiggled in his seat while they drove. "so, where are we going?" he asked.
"a crime scene. you may have to stay in the car though, but i'll park so that you can see," his dad stated
taekwoon wiggled even more excitedly and when they arrived, taekwoon clambered up to the dashboard to watch what was going on. this was way too exciting for him.
he watched how everything unfolded.
The body was taken away and he watched how his father worked. He was so impressionable that one day so long ago had left a massive effect on him.
That was the whole reason he delved into detective work.
a solo detailing your muse’s first day on the job.
seoul. three years ago.
Sungki had just finished his probation and received a first official assignment. He was to be assisting in a murder case as an officer. He received the file and his instructions and told to report to the detective in charge. Unluckily for him, the detective in charge of the murder case was someone Sungki knew reasonably well. The man was one of his father's coworker's but made it well known that he didn't like the idea of Sungki as a child joining his father on the cases, claiming that it was terrible for a child to see such things.
The man always hated him and now Sungki had to work under him. The detective was Jung Hyunjoon and Sungki feared working under the man. He approached the detective at his desk. "Detective Jung. I'm your new assistant," he said, introducing himself politely. He bowed respectfully before hesitantly staring at the man, awaiting his job classification.
For a long time, Sungki had wanted to be a detective, so of course, he'd be put to assist the best detective in the department even if the man hated him. The older man looked at him annoyed. "Yes, yes, I know who you are. Still can't believe that you managed to make it this far," he stated. Sungki straightened. "No, sir. I worked hard on where I am and I assure you, despite my pretty face, I am an entirely capable officer. I finished near the top of the class." he said, aiming to make an impression of some sort. Jung Hyunjoon laughed loudly as though the mere thought was funny. "Alright. Prove it. You're assigned to Forensics, which means you're going to be going back and forth between the CSI lab and the office, bringing evidence for checking," he stated. That would keep this upstart from the case.
Sungki nodded and with a solid “Yes, sir,” rushed off to his job classification. He hadn’t realized that this meant a lot of desk duty rather than fieldwork. He wanted to do more but he wouldn’t be allowed. Maybe, if he solved the case single-handedly, maybe that would show something to that awful detective. He began reading the case files in more detail, and something felt off about the case. Maybe it was the strange sense of familiarity, like he had seen something like this before, or maybe this strange feeling that they weren’t looking at the right clues. He spent a lot of time gazing at the clues and the details when it suddenly hit him why it was so familiar...
The case reminded him of a similar situation when he first joined the academy. His dad had been working on a murder case at the time, and it bore strange similarities to this one. Maybe he got released. There was a lack of evidence five years ago, but he was pretty sure this was the same person. It was a lot messier though. But this was only the first day. He could figure out more tomorrow...
(The case did get solved by Sungki. Turns out his hunch was correct. )
