I saw this on /r/todayilearned .. It actually makes sense that we should be referring to it as year 12014. The theory that civilization arose in that time has more logic behind it than basing our calendar on the prospective birth of Jesus, and could be more universally accepted. The only problem is that we've been referring to the years in accordance to the Common Era (CE), or Anno Domini (AD) for so long, that a change would be a big adjustment.
