Conopholis americana, aka cancer root. It's a parasitic plant that has no leaves, just lives off of the energy of other plants, particularly oak trees. It's off white or yellowish when it is in bloom and turns black as it goes to seed. The tincture is a dark purplish colour. As the name subtly hints, it is traditionally used for people who have cancer. I have found that it tends to decrease some types of pain, increase energy and stamina, and probably helps to improve immune response. As it is not an article of commerce, little if any methodical research has ever been conducted into its pharmacology or clinical performance.
