Holosseum was a “hologram” game from Sega which apparently used a curved mirror inside the cabinet to “project” the fighters in the game and create an illusion of depth. It came out in the early 90s, and aside from potential bad timing with Street Fighter II, the roster is pretty uninspiring. The way that the characters are “rendered” into each fight through a mess of green and black static suggests that their narrative existence in the game’s story might take the form of actual holograms, or digital renders, or something. But probably not. I mean, if the story is about digital characters in a digital world, why would their representations be such an uninspiring bunch of dudes?
