BAD BENA DROPS NEW VIDEO SINGLE ‘HOLY TRIAD’
BAD BENA, the rising star hailing from the vibrant St. Ann in Jamaica, has released her most personal and powerful work to date with her new single, ‘HOLY TRIAD’. The soul-stirring dancehall and trap fusion track is a raw and honest exploration of the emotional and spiritual challenges that come with leaving home and forging a new path in a foreign land. The Three Sisters
Many are familiar with the Holy Triad of virtues found in 1 Cor 13:13: faith-πίστις, hope-ἐλπίς, love-ἀγάπη. Paul adds that the greatest of these is love. We often overlook how these "three sisters" were also a favorite theme among many early Christian writers. Check out their collocation in Paul: 1 Thess 1:3 (work of faith-ἔργου τῆς πίστεως, labor of love-τοῦ κόπου τῆς ἀγάπης, patience of hope-τῆς ὑπομονῆς τῆς ἐλπίδος). Paul tells us more specifically about the Thessalonians' spiritual experience in 1:9, 10. "You turned to God from idols" (was that their work of faith?). "To serve the living God" (was that their labor of love?). "To wait for His Son from heaven" (was that their endurance of hope?). And don't forget to include 1 Thess. 5:8 and Col. 1:4-5 as other Pauline appearances of the "Three Sisters." Then check out Peter: 1 Peter 1:21-22 (your faith- πίστιν ὑμῶν, hope-ἐλπίδα, brotherly love-φιλαδελφίαν); and then turn to the author of Hebrews: Heb 10:22 (faith-πίστεως), 23 (hope-ἐλπίδος) and 24 (love-ἀγάπης). For similar spiritual triads, see also Jude 2 (mercy-ἔλεος, peace-εἰρήνη, love-ἀγάπη) and 20-21 (faith-πίστει . . . love- ἀγάπῃ . . . mercy-ἔλεος). In non-charismatic, Calvinist evangelicalism, we usually have a strong emphasis on faith and hope. Do we have as strong an emphasis on love? I think not. And yet, Paul (the great advocate of faith) says that love is the greatest of the Three Sisters. When we cease to be self-critical, we are headed for a doctrinaire but dead orthodoxy sorely lacking in love. Sadly, many of us have already reached that sad destination.
