One Philly: Unity Concert for America RECAP

Philadelphia and Roc Nation Live delivered one of the country's largest Independence Day celebrations on July 4 as One Philly: Unity Concert for America brought together a large crowd of celebrants from near and far on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for a historic evening of music, culture, and community in honor of America's 250th anniversary.

Produced by Roc Nation Live, the free concert featured unforgettable performances from Will Smith, The Roots, Jill Scott, Jordan Davis, Meek Mill, Seal, State Property, Kathy Sledge, Infinity Song, Tierra Whack with Wanda Sykes serving as host throughout the evening.

The historic event transformed the Benjamin Franklin Parkway into a citywide celebration, featuring immersive fan activations spotlighting Philadelphia neighborhoods, surprise collaborations, greetings to the public by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and performances spanning R&B, pop, country, gospel, and soul, ending with a brilliant fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art. 

Among the night's standout moments, Seal had the crowd swaying to his classics, “Kiss From a Rose” and “Fly Like an Eagle.” Jordan Davis brought the country to Philly with “Turn This Truck Around” and “Buy Dirt.” “Philadelphia’s own Jill Scott brought the hometown crowd to its feet with "Golden,” “Long Walk” and "Norf Side," bringing out Tierra Whack as a surprise guest performer.

Severe thunderstorms following Jill Scott’s performance resulted in a nearly three-hour weather delay. The concert resumed around midnight with a performance by Philadelphia native DJ Aktive, whose set brought attendees back together and reignited the energy of the celebration. Following welcome-back remarks from the Mayor, The Roots took the stage, opening with "Here I Come" and a special rendition of "Jungle Boogie/Soul Makossa." Throughout the performance, The Roots were joined by Kathy Sledge, State Property, Meek Mill, and Will Smith with DJ Jazzy Jeff, who performed fan favorites including "He's the Greatest Dancer," "Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop," "Dreams and Nightmares," and "Summertime"!

Ken Carson Drops New Album 'xperiment'

Multi-platinum, Billboard No. 1 recording artist Ken Carson enters his next era with the release of his highly anticipated fifth studio album, xperiment, via Opium/Interscope Records. Pushing his sound into uncharted territory, the 22-track project arrives following a streak of career milestones that have propelled him to new heights, further establishing him as one of rap’s most talked-about artists. The album blends melodic moments with his signature high-energy sound, marking a creative shift that seamlessly balances intensity with more emotionally driven elements. 

xperiment features production from Ken’s trusted collaborators including AM, F1LTHY, starboy, Outtatown, DJ Moon, and more, alongside 2hollis, who produced “shadeson,” which Ken performed as the closing song of his Rolling Loud California 2026 set. Ken remains closely involved in production throughout the album, continuing to build with producers who have helped define his sound. Built on his high-energy DNA, the project reflects an evolution in his career and a continued push to expand creative boundaries. It includes collaborations with Destroy Lonely on “shopping” and Playboi Carti on “deaf note,” as well as “wedidit” which Ken and Carti performed together during Carti’s closing set at Summer Smash. The project also reunites him with Lil Uzi Vert on “ghost” and Young Thug on “drug kit.”

Ahead of the album’s release, the ever-evolving world of xperiment sparked speculation throughout the year. Ken further fueled anticipation by revealing the cover art, which features a USB inserted into his neck as part of the project’s central concept and visual language. In addition, the project expands his cinematic universe through a series of short films that build out its eerie visual world, leaning into sci-fi, suspense, and surreal storytelling. Bringing the world of xperiment into the real world, Ken will celebrate the album's release with an immersive three-day pop-up in London, where fans can experience the project through exclusive merchandise, limited-edition apparel, and physical editions of the album. The pop-up will take place July 3–4 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and July 5 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lab Store Westend.

This era builds on an unprecedented run for the Atlanta native. His 2025 album, More Chaos, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning him his first chart-topping album, while 2023's critically acclaimed A Great Chaos propelled his career to new heights, landing on year-end Best Albums lists from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Complex. This year alone, Ken has continued to raise the bar. He was announced as a headliner for ComplexCon 2026 as part of Opium's takeover of the festival's 10th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles, where he will headline on Saturday, October 3. In June, he delivered a career-defining performance at Rolling Loud California 2026, closing the Under Armour Stage with his first-ever Sunday night headlining festival set. MAIYA THE DON DROPS NEW ALBUM 'PRECIOUS CARGO'

Maiya The Don has touched down with Precious Cargo, out now via MNRK Music Group, and the Brooklyn rapper is the high-value freight, her name stamped right on the manifest. Fifteen tracks of luxury, honesty, and pure New York energy, made independent and entirely on her own terms. The flex was never the bag or the cars. It was always known she was the cargo, worth protecting with everything you have.

She makes that case one track at a time. It opens with "Safe Sex," Maiya putting her girls on: “I feel like Bey, I’ve been running around with Destiny’s Child.” Then, almost under her breath, she names the loneliness that comes when you take off, and everyone shows up at once. The bravado and the truth, side by side, the whole album in one song. "Let’s Be Clear" is pure confidence, the kind that does not raise its voice. "TEN" turns self-love into a hook you scream back at your own reflection. None of this came from nowhere. Before the designer trunks and the airport tarmac, there was a girl in Brooklyn, adopted at fifteen, the oldest daughter who learned early to carry everyone else before herself. Jace! Drops New Album and Video

With a massive underground fanbase and a determination to prove his versatility, Jace! seeks to defy expectations with EAT SH!T, his new album, out today. Spanning 24 tracks, EAT SH!T is a dazzling display of versatility, gathering beats by some of the underground's best to accompany his soaring melodies and breakneck rhymes. A brilliant new chapter in the artist formerly known as iayze's career, The album takes aim directly at gossipers and onlookers who ignore the 23-year-old's artistry and dismiss how far he has come since he broke into the music industry as a teenager.

Along with the album, Jace! will release the music video for album highlight "no ho in my bones," an anthemic album highlight. Produced by his frequent collaborator Hecto, "no ho in my bones" is a showcase for Jace's vocal acrobatics, as he stretches syllables atop arpeggiating pianos and subsonic 808s. The young rapper lays out his mission statement, singing "like Justin Bieber" and expressing his admiration for Bizzy Bone as he assures the audience he will never go away without a fight. SABRINA STERLING DROPS 'AN AMERICAN CRIME' EP
