Nowadays, it is a common fact that some parents are adopting the famous ¨home-schooling¨ strategy to educate their children. Instead of going to school, children are being educated by their parents at home. But, are parents making the right choice?
First of all, having a parent as a teacher has its advantages as well as its disadvantages. On the one hand, it is great idea because your parents know you better than anyone, so maybe, they know which is your best way to learn. But, one the other hand, it is ture that most parents don´t have the same teaching skills a teacher has. They may not know everything teachers know and learn during their profession.
Secondly, making firends is another point. Children at their homes might not socialize as they are expected to do at school. While studying with their parents at home, they can make videoconferences with other home-schooling children. However, it is not the same as making friends at school which helps children to develop themselves.
Moreover, values are also important. At school, children learn some values that can´t be learned at home. They learn how to work in teams, they have more responsabilities and commitment towards their studies. Furhtermore, they get used to spend so many hours out of their houses, what may help them on their futures.
To sum up, I believe that children should be sent to school rather than being taught at home. Schools help children to become independant learners and develop full autonomy.
