ASMR - A Passion Worth Pursuing
This world is loud. It leaves a ringing in my ears
and brings me nearly to tears some nights when I finally try to fall asleep.
It gives me a headache and spins me around in alarm.
I also indulge in it. I turn the music up as loud as possible.
You can find me on stage at the dive bar; Standing, strumming, screaming my off brand folk songs.
We stay up late dancing and singing or drunkenly swaying on a piano bench.
I plan to write more about other places I find silence and peace of mind but for now it’ll be all about ASMR and what keeps me going back to listen and to produce it.
If it weren’t for ASMR I wouldn’t have much quiet time
Or the community of creators, fans, and enthusiasts the like
who are all concerned about people’s peace of mind.
Whenever an ASMR conversation sparks up everyone gets happy to talk about it.
It’s all origin stories and favorite triggers and favorite asmrtists and encouraging the person listening in on the conversation to check it out. Like, “I’m sure you would find something you like”.
I will have been posting ASMR for one year in a few days.
I’m so grateful to be able to be part of this.
There’s one person in particular that I can’t imagine myself making ASMR without their support.
So if you’re reading this, or maybe proofreading this, thank you again.
ASMR helps me maintain a certain level of sanity.
It is one of the only things that can quiet down my racing thoughts.
My thoughts are louder than the noise of the world to me.
And they’re not very nice usually. .
Some nights I listen to ASMR for six hours and then continue on into the next day.
I also listen to ASMR while writing or doing quiet work.
I am listening to ASMR while writing this.
There could be music in the air or in the headphones
but sometimes it is easier to think with ASMR.
I practiced making ASMR for two months before I posted anything.
So over the past year plus making ASMR has been one of my favorite passions.
I’m constantly tapping on everything out in the world.
Some friends who also like ASMR will see me tapping on something and say something like,
“Oh, that’s a good one. You should do a video of that”
I’ve focused on trigger based videos. I try to make things that I would like.
There is a unique space in time while recording when the flow decides on its own where to go.
I think I can see this in some other creators videos as well.
That’s so much different for me from recording other mediums.
Recording music is a pretty stringent set of tasks usually.
Recording video projects tends to take a lot of direction and vision and cooperation.
So when left alone with a set of tuning forks or an assortment of objects I find that the flow of the recording is constantly evolving.
Sometimes even when I have a sequence planned there aren’t any restrictions during recording.
Editing is maybe my favorite part.
I get to fix mistakes and magically erase passing cars.
Every edit makes me feel good.
It’s a good thing we have ASMR.
I would like to encourage anyone who is considering making ASMR or any other creative endeavour to give it a shot.
Create for the sake of creating.
