Happy National Appreciate a Dragon Day!
Admittedly, I didn't know there was such a thing as a National Appreciate a Dragon Day, but once I heard (around 5PM today), I threw away everything I was doing to bring this handsome gentleman to life.
So here he is, one of the scariest creatures in Heroes of Might and Magic 3, the Black Dragon! I really love how the wings ended up. It's an old recipe I perfected a while back, but it's good to know I can still pull it off :)

Erinyus for @eonianarchives and Romania for @auntarivia ^^
Subject for Day 18 is "Heroes of Might and Magic III". I present to you, the humble Skeleton Warrior. A lot of experimentation in this one so the style looks a bit disjointed. I wanted to use ink lines for the skeleton himself and intentionally kept the shading to a minimum. As a result I think the whole piece came out looking a lot like a comic book.
The really wacky technique was using a drop-shadow effect when doing the reflections on the metal. I used this the other day on Jaden Korr but only for a particular pattern on her clothes. Here I went wild with it and heavily relied upon it for creating the metallic look. The blue underglow is a bit nonsensical but I'm going to call that part "rule of cool". Maybe it's a tell as to the eerie magic of the necromancer animating this fine pile of bones.
I'm pretty sure the actual sprites in HoMM3 are wearing a maille coif, but just a few seconds of trying to draw chain links and looking at how masters like Clyde Caldwell did it was enough to convince me that I was better off just making it leather instead.
Romania's character sheet (updated)
I'll post a comparison of her old and current designs soon.
Another batch of models from Heroes of Might and Magic III — this time, war machines! ⚔️🔥 The Ballista, Ammo Cart, and First Aid Tent are ready for battle. Painting them was a great experience, and throughout the whole process I had the song “Kolapni Drewna” playing in the background
