A bearing cage (also called a bearing retainer) refers to a bearing part that partially encloses all or part of the rolling body and moves with it to isolate the rolling body, and usually guides the rolling body to keep it in the bearing.
The main types of bearing cages are divided into three types: nylon cages, window-type stamped steel cages and window-type brass cages. The advantages and disadvantages of different types of bearing cages are introduced below.
Nylon cage: The advantages are light weight, strong elasticity, good sliding performance, good marginal lubrication performance, the disadvantage is that the operating temperature should be used below 120 degrees Celsius.
Window type stamped steel cage: The advantages are light weight, high strength, no operating temperature limit, high-end shock resistance and acceleration, the disadvantage is sensitive to poor lubrication.
Window type brass cage: The advantages are extremely high strength, high shock resistance and acceleration performance, suitable for ultra-high speed operation related to circulating oil lubrication. Disadvantages: the price is relatively expensive.
The main functions of the bearing cage:
1. The cage separates the rolling elements at equal distances and is evenly distributed on the circumference of the raceway to prevent collision and friction between the rolling elements during work;
2.Guide and drive the rolling body to roll on the correct track;
3. In the separable bearing, the rolling element and a ring are combined to prevent the rolling element from falling off;
Causes of bearing cage damage:
1. Insufficient bearing lubrication. The lubricating oil or grease is dried out and not added in time (maintenance). The label of the lubricating oil or grease is wrong.
2. Impact load of bearings. The intense vibration in the impact load produces the impact of the rolling element on the cage.
3. The cleanliness of the bearing. The bearing is not well sealed in the bearing box, and dust enters, which aggravates the friction between the rolling element and the cage, thereby damaging the cage.
4. Error in selecting material for bearing cage. Various cage materials have certain requirements for temperature resistance and rotation speed. If the material selection is not correct, it is also the cause of damage to the cage.
5. Installation problems. If the bearing is not installed correctly, the cage will be damaged during installation.
6. Other reasons. If the coupling is asymmetric, the bearing is skewed and the stress is uneven; the belt is installed too tight; environmental problems, etc., may damage the bearing or the cage.
