‘ when you close your eyes , do you picture me ? ’

there was a time, years ago, when the answer to that question would have been the same as it is now. but there is so much time in between both of those answers, so much happened in between those two instances in time - then and now - with one moment having this question asked out loud by her while back then this was only a thought he carried in his mind. locked away and down, in a lonely corner where he learned to place all his unused hopes and wishes. the frankenstein never found any use for that corner of his mind, not since he was a young teenager, but finding a second shot at only one of the reminders he put into that revives some of the warmth that used to fill him before the cold taste of aspirations and duty took him over. that his most cynical being gets deconstructed by someone who is just as cynical as his, though lacking any cold he could posses, is also something that makes him wonder. and sometimes it makes him laugh, as well. how he got this far even, how he managed to subconsciously stray towards the one hopeful moment in his twenties that left a lasting imprint just for the woman in the centre of that moment to change his whole life forever? again?
frederick is by far not a sentimental man. sentiment, after all, is for fools alone and the world cut him too deep too early to ever let him live out the years in which he could have allowed himself to be one. but there is a steady drumming inside his chest, his heartbeat a vital reminder for the present and for the easy way that dina can unhinge all the cold inside of him. she melts the frost with all her fire, all the warmth she possesses like an ever-lasting sunbeam. now, he has always found himself bound to the moon, aligning with it’s cold light and the darkness it surrounds, and it is only through dina’s presence in his life that, for the first time, he might prefer to turn towards anything that reminds him of the warm daylight ⸺ her.
“who else would there be?” he replies, feeling a safe and secure burn manifesting in his veins and having him reach out to put his arms around her waist, to lean forward and kiss her shortly. “i think it is pretty clear that at this point there’s not even a chance for my work to creep into my dreams when you are around, dina.”
