Looking for a partner in crime👀😅
This idea has been rotting inside my head for a long time now.... It was my friend who told me half of this plot actually and then we developed it while talking and so now with their permission I'm posting it here. If there is an already existing story tht has a similar storyline please know tht we weren't honestly aware of it and this came out of a useless conversation🙏🙏 I'd really appreciate it if anyone would turn it into an actual fanfic cuz I can't write to save myself🤧🤧 I'll happily help you out with giving ideas too (cuz ig thts all I'm capable of) Anyways the story goes like this......
Basically it's like joshua and jeonghan were bethrothed to each other when they were little, and they knew abt this since they turned 13 cuz their family thought that children usually begin falling in love and all sorts of whatnot in their teenage years so might as well establish they don't hv tht freedom as soon as they become teens. Here's the twist though, jeonghan and joshua don't really know each other or are they friends here. They've met each other a couple of times when they were kids, hv interacted a little bit and the last time they saw each other was when they were 13 before joshua moved to LA. So the last time joshua saw jeonghan, jeonghan looked kinda like a nerd kid with braces and glasses. They grow up knowing they're kinda engaged already so they never got into a relationship with anyone else cuz they were truthful to each other and initially since jeonghan had a good opinion on joshua he didn't hate the idea of marriage. But once he started going to college, dental scl to be exact (don't ask me why idk either) his parents made him and joshua interact through calls and everything to get them used to each other. During those calls he realized tht joshua might be a little bit controlling, like even abt the outfits he wears so for jeonghan who despite everything values his independence starts slowly hating getting married to someone who's like this without even being in love. He feels like it's not worth it but since his parents are adamant he tolerates joshua during these phone calls. By the time jeonghan is in his 4th year of college joshua had graduated and become the ceo of his family business and become quite successful and popular making headlines and everything. Them despite having talked to each other regularly don't ever video call each other and unlike joshua jeonghan is very private on his social media and never posts pictures of himself and he also keeps his appearances discreet despite being the son of a wealthy businessman not attending galas and stuff cuz one he's busy with studies and two he doesn't wanna be treated differently by his peers so he keeps it a secret from everyone but his closest friends so joshua doesn't hv any idea how jeonghan currently looks whereas jeonghan knows Joshua's appearance (and he agrees he aged like fine wine and looks hot and handsome) thanks to media and social media. The reason why they agree not to videocall is not bcuz of anything else they're just shy to initiate a video call. Anyways years pass and finally jeonghan graduates and he expects his so called fiancé to be there, he even tells him tht he's graduating on their call hoping he'd come but joshua doesn't turn up so it makes jeonghan feel even more bitter. 2 years later once he turns 28 their families decide to seriously discuss about marriage but jeonghan asks him to give another 6 month time before they get into it and his parents agree. During this time he decides to find something against joshua so tht he could use it to break their marriage. He asks his friends to run a background check on him but everything about him comes clean. Although he's desired by many men and women alike he has never been in a relationship with anyone else. So Jeonghan decides to take matters into his own hands and leaves to south korea with his best friend and clinic partner minghao to find something or trap joshua into something. He says they're both taking a break from work and since they're both crazy rich and their clinic is super successful and they still hv wonwoo and jun to run it their parents agree so they both go to LA for vacation. Also note tht jeonghan asks his parents to keep it a secret from joshua bcuz he wanted to spend some time on himself before marriage and not with his fiance and tht he will eventually meet up with him atleast a week before he returns back to seoul and they agree.
Jeonghan, jun, wonwoo and minghao are all dentists and best friends since college like they're a friend group in college and they decided to start a clinic together after they graduated. They're all well off but jeonghan and minghao are crazy rich. Jeonghan and minghao are best friends since childhood, rich enough tht their parents own very successful businesses tht they didn't hv to study dentistry but they studied it out of passion and now own the most successful clinic in seoul along with their best friends even though all of them graduated only 2 years prior. Jeonghan's current appearance is like a walking magazine cover. Shoulder length black hair (similar to real life Jeonghan in super era) no glasses he wears contacts now and absolutely he has gotten ride of his braces.
So jeonghan and minghao go to LA but first they decide might as well enjoy this vacation for a week or so before getting into the mission but fate has it tht they run into joshua in the most terrible ways possible. At first they run into each other on a high end restaurant. Jeonghan is there with minghao and joshua with his best friend seungcheol. Lets say this restaurant is like a wine tasting place where they buy one glass and can walk around tasting fine wine and finally eat a nice dinner (yes i got inspired by nana tour). So while jeonghan and minghao walk around jeonghan runs into joshua spilling wine all over his expensive clothes. Jeonghan immediately recognises it's joshua but joshua doesn't and jeonghan apologises but joshua snaps at him. Let's say joshua had a really bad day and was super stressed out and thts why seungcheol dragged him there in the first place and tht bad mood reflected here. Minghao snaps back at joshua and drags jeonghan away. Later when jeonghan comes out of the restroom and opens the door joshua who was about to enter tht restroom and was standing outside gets his head bumped and he snaps at jeonghan again but this time jeonghan would snap back saying he felt bad first but it serves him right since he's a complete asshole. So first meeting starts with a misunderstanding. This makes jeonghan more determined to carry out his mission. All the while carrying out his mission to find something against joshua which he fails terribly at he also keeps on running into joshua coincidentally and they manage to become friends and jeonghan gets the feel tht joshua might be attracted to him. To joshua jeonghan introduces himself as yang jungwon (it's bcuz of this random scene tht popped up in my mind where minghao would call jeonghan by his name when we drags him away after snapping at joshua but Joshua's suddenly like did you say jeonghan anf jeonghan is like no my name is jungwon... cuz the name sounds similar and also I'm a caratengene...) joshua really doesn't know it's jeonghan. Since jeonghan thinks tht joshua might be attracted to "yang jungwon" while being engaged to Yoon jeonghan he decides he'll use this to break the marriage claiming he was not being truthful to their relationship cuz they still regularly keep touch over phone as well. So in a way jeonghan will start hurting over the fact tht joshua was cheating on him all the while enjoying Joshua's company and being on the receiving end of his attention, it'll get him super confused with him actually starting to love joshua in tht time. As for joshua he'd be lying if he said he wasn't attracted to this jungwon but at the same time he was serious abt his relationship with jeonghan and he although wasn't exactly in love with him he genuinely believed tht they could have something real together. So even though he spent time with jungwon, a lot of time actually and was kind of attracted to him he wanted nothing but to be best friends with him because he clicked with him the most and felt the most understood when with him (sorry seungcheol). Eventually joshua will come to realize tht jeonghan was jungwon and would feel hurt abt him deceiving him under a false identity but he decides he'll win his heart somehow.
Once after joshua finds out both jeonghan and jungwon are one person he subtly exposes jeonghan and then he'd be like jeonghan just so yk I was actually attracted to you, jungwon tht is, but i was still faithful to you, jeonghan, bcuz I've been imagining a life with you ever since we started talking regularly, for the past 8 years. All I wanted to do with you as jungwon was to be best friends at max but you wanted to find dirt on me by using this whole fake identity. If you hate the idea of being married to me tht much you could've just voiced it, i would've done something to stop it myself, how could I force you into a life you don't like. I wanted, no I thought you too chose me just as I did. If we're ever getting married I wanted it to happen because we chose each other, because we genuinely believed we could live together, happily, as a family. But it doesn't seem like it so ig it's best if we don't see each other anymore and if we break up this engagement. Don't worry abt your parents I'll say I fell in love with someone else and thts why I wanted to break it and take the blame for myself. I'm going to seoul next week anyway so I'll tell your parents in person. I actually wanted to surprise you there but what's done is done. I really wanted us to be family, and friends with jungwon, but ig it's best if we don't see each other anymore. And jeonghan could feel super hurt and angry at the same time and be like, you controlled me abt everything upto my attire, you didn't even show up for my graduation and here you are playing victim? Trust me I also thought things would work out and we could hv something for real but no! For you I was something you could bribe with money I was nothing more than tht! And here I am a dumb lover who actually fell for you in this whole fiasco. I wanted to tell the truth myself, tht is why I called you here, I wanted to properly apologise but since it seems like you don't wanna hear me out and hv made a decision for yourself you're right Let's end this here. Joshua could go after him since he heard jeonghan confess his feelings but jeonghan could give a cold shoulder. So joshua could realize his mistakes, things which initially made Jeonghan feel bitter abt him and this time court jeonghan properly. It'll be a push and pull but eventually worth it.
Like after jeonghan storms out and joshua tries to reach out but fail they both could mope around. Jeonghan can immediately leave back to seoul with minghao and minghao would be there trying to recollect jeonghan while jeonghan could be absolutely miserable. Same with joshua and seungcheol in LA. Minghao and Seungcheol could've become friends during this whole fiasco and once after everything fell apart they could still be in touch through which they find out tht joshua and jeonghan still love each other despite everything and are both miserable without each other. And they decide they deserve another chance at love since this whole misunderstanding was also bcuz of their parents poor planning and everything so they decide to meddle and help (true best friend energy like remember how minghao was down to fly to another country for 6 whole months for his best friend likewise he should rightfully meddle now to make things right and make him happy and seungcheol just loves joshua too much to let his best friend be this heartbroken, besides its kinda annoying in a good way too). Finally seungcheol could be like if you really like him why don't you try dating him this time, from scratch and so Joshua would take his advice and go to seoul. There with minghao's help he actually courts jeonghan and eventually marries him (on the date their parents wanted) almost a year after he first met Jeonghan or jungwon to be precise and they continue to develop their feelings throughout their marriage.
They don’t marry on the same date bcuz they wanted to its more like after hearing Jeonghan’s confession joshua is confused abt breaking up the engagement and by the time he goes to la like he previously planned its to earn his forgiveness and date jeonghan like seungcheol said. So its essentially still an arranged marriage like their parents wanted but having knowing each other as jungwon and joshua for months and now dating and getting to choose things like the wedding suits and stuff they feel like they're willing to give it a try. The parents know nothing abt this drama they're just happy tht suddenly magically things started looking promising. They don't tell anything also bcuz in a way for adults wht Jeonghan did would sound absolutely atrocious even though Joshua, Seungcheol, minghao, jun and wonwoo understand where it came from. So in a way the engagement was never called off but it was chosen willingly this time instead.
To clear some stuff, as for tht graduation, joshua did initially wanna come to it but he had an important last minute meeting to attend bcuz of some serious crisis in the company which lead him to reschedule his initial flight, he was super busy during this time due to some project lets say so he was planning on taking a flight which would land in la the night before graduation but he had to delay it and thought he'd land their in the morning and directly go to the graduation but then tht flight was delayed due to bad weather and he couldn't make it. But he feels super bad go he gets a super expensive platinum bracelet but to Jeonghan it seems as if joshua is treating him someone who he could win over with expensive stuff.
As for the controlling over outfit issue, it's because joshua wanted jeonghan to hv the absolute best at everything tht he would by clothes and tell him to wear it. Even though it was kind of Jeonghan's style jeonghan just got furious thinking joshua was demanding him to do tht when joshua only wanted to spoil him with gifts as a way to show his feelings. Besides joshua only asks whether he wore the outfit doesn't even as for pictures as proof it's the way joshua asked subtly tht way whether jeonghan liked it or not made it seem controlling. Basically joshua isn't good at long distance courting.
Additionally even though joshua snaps at jeonghan on their first meeting the next day when he feels guilty abt snapping at a stranger he'll admit tht jeonghan was gorgeous and then without realising he'd think if the jeonghan he knew had changed as well.
Also joshua is very discreet abt jeonghan and his betrothal, only seungcheol knew abt it, whereas everyone around jeonghan knows he's engaged so when Jeonghan finds out tht joshua kept it a secret he feels tht maybe joshua is just using him for strengthening the business and having an heir and therefore doesn't even want ppl to know tht he's engaged, whereas joshua really kept it a secret bcuz jeonghan disliked being a public topic and if anyone finds out it might become a headline and stuff.
