HONOR BAR: BEST VEGGIE BURGER IN LA

I used to work on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, CA which is home to the tiny eatery, Honor Bar. My colleagues and I would come here to celebrate landing business deals or just pop in for a quick lunch and a beer. It was our weekly staple, and I came to love this place. Beyond the nostalgia it now holds, Honor Bar is also amazingly delicious. The menu is small, but everything (and, yes, I've tried it all) is done to perfection. 

The chicken sandwich is quite famous and during my brief stint as a non-vegetarian, I tried it and immediately understood the hype. My typical orders are the veggie burger, fries with the sauces, and a Stella Artois. The sushi is also great, and the kale salad is one of my favorites in the city. If you are visiting LA and looking to kick back in a laid back, yet stunning architectural space all while eating delicious bites, then this is your spot.

The bar has been set.

To start this whole shebang off - we start in Oakland - well Emeryville to be totally accurate. The place where the bone marrow love affair began. The place where I bring every friend that I love (who isn’t vegan). The place that all travelers passing through my house end up. HONOR BAR.

They have amazing bartenders. Amazing foods of all kinds (even for vegetarians). But mainly... THEY HAVE BONE MARROW BRULEE! Perfectly roasted, bruleed, and topped with roasted garlic, and perfectly roasted to crispy jalepeños - it’s smokey, garlicky, sweet, luscious, and buttery smooth and smears perfectly on locally made organic Acme Bread. There is possibly not a better food in the world IMHO. Though there’s a place in NYC that is close. Paired with a Whistle Pig Rye or Bulleit Rye on the rocks and heaven has arrived. OMG. Just LOOK AT IT.

So. Damn. Good.

This is the bone marrow against which all others shall be judged. Plus they have epic pickled veggies as well. And I have a weakness for pickles.

If you live locally - or if you’re traveling to SF - don’t let this East Bay gem escape your radar - HONOR BAR is the BEST BAR in possibly the world. Go early or late to avoid the Pixar happy hour crew. They’re nice - but the bar is better when it’s a little less crowded.
