I’ve been posting a lot of music here and there, purely because that’s what I do anyway, but also to gauge reactions and how quickly I can generate “likes” and views on facebook.
I posted a song I had recorded with this female singer, Alicia Santana, who has a great voice, is getting quite well known in and around the local Edinburgh scene and also has sizeable gathering on her social media outlets.
She doesn’t post a great deal but what little she does post, even small things like picures and clips of her singing, generate a lot of views on her facebook and Instagram pages.
i thought it would be interesting to see how alicia’s presence on my social media output would affect my audience response, if at all. I had reason to believe it would as she reposted one from my previous ep onto her sounbdcloud, and as a result has amassed over 200 listens and several downloads in stark contrast to the rest of the ep which still has barely any.
I was initially expecting a massive surge of likes and views after posting this but I was surprised to see how gradual the reception has been.
It has been up for 18 days and has still only amassed 120 listens. however, in contrast to the usual influx of listens I amass from soundcloud this is still a big improvement.
from this, I can gather that “piggy backing” on other peoples hype train can be a relatively effective tool
