I’m probably behind the times because I really enjoy reading manga in paper/book format, but today I finally started a system for reading manga in Japanese online!

I’m using honto.jp . It has an app that makes your library of manga and books very organized, and the pages are very readable and easy to scroll. (I’m finding the tablet version a little better, just because it’s easier to read at that size.) However, you need to use the webpage (not the app) to find and download a lot of the content.

Right now they have a lot of volumes for free! I got the first three volumes of Chihayafuru, five volumes of Naruto, three volumes of Showa Rakugo, and a few others. I also got volume 1 of Promised Neverland, though it seems like it might only be free to read for the next 6 day’s before it disappears.

I found it fairly easy to sign up and use the site, but it is in Japanese. If anyone is interested, maybe I could do a walkthrough post later.

オリジナルのラビは持っているので、何かの機会にでも買おうとは思っていたけれど、意外に実店舗で見かけることがなかった。ネットで本を買う時に、送料無料にするためにオマケで買う。同梱の「はずるAtoZ」のカードは初めての入手。

I just noticed that honto is going to stop selling physical books at the end of March next year. The end of an era. I haven't used them since moving to Japan, but back in my home country I was always using honto, or rather its previous incarnation bk1, because they had the most reasonable shipping options. I am wondering if there is another site now with good shipping or is it all Amazon robbery?

(Btw, there is no acceptable service to get foreign books in Japan since Amazon killed Book Depository, and they are not willing to put the books I missed on BD back in stock in Japan, even if they are available on other countries' Amazon sites - with expensive shipping...)

Honto, a Japanese bookshop (as I understand it) surveyed I think over 1,000 BL fans and here are their responses to a few questions that I think is interesting.
