Hi barefoothooves, if you have time for suggestions on my work on our four rescued equine friend ( i will send you one at the time so that i will not kill you … :) we will appreciate it a lot,
These are Suri’s hooves,
, trimmed 5 days ago. In rome, Italy now we have a very dry climate, but usually in the winter our one acre paddock is wet.when we got him 7 months ago he was in miserable conditions , as to weight and mood, depressed and affected by thrush. I think , he is,if it is possible , a chronic thrush horse, because he had other two suspected episodes, resolved with" pete ramey’s “ remedy. Now the cure of love worked , he is a gorgeous 18 years old guy, muscular and sound. He had A lot of separation of laminae in the past period and also an abscess that grew down, and some stress rings. Let me know please if i can improve in helping him . Thank you so much for any input
These are very strong hooves! The walls looks like they are in great shape and there is a nice callous to the sole. You are doing a good job so far. There’s only three things I would do on each foot. 1) lower the heels a bit more (in one of the shots I drew a yellow arrow showing the periople curl of the skin covering the heel bulbs. If you can get the heel platform a bit closer to that, it is often a good indication of natural heel height). 2) straighten and shorten the bars just a bit. 3) treat the center of the frog for bacteria/fungus and remove any loose flaps on the frog. Otherwise they are looking great! I illustrated a these things in the pictures below.
