Crazy Mountain’s Hookiebobb is more APA than IPA. It’s got a fresh green scent, but the flavor is more muted than I was expecting. It’s floral like a forest, not an orchard. The body is lighter than an IPA needs. It’s fluffy, not juicy. It’s a decent beer, I wouldn’t turn it down. But when I’m reaching for an IPA, this isn’t really what I want.
Maybe it’s a regional thing. I’ve been reading a lot lately about the NE IPA craze. Everyone in Portland lately wants murky, yeasty, thick beer lately. But what other regional variations are there?
California IPAs tend to be golden and almost filtered clear. People say that in the NW, IPAs are piney-er. That ever really read true to me. What’s the speical in Colorado?
