A Quick Dip [OPEN]
“Whew,”
With a quick dusting of dirt from his hands, Hope was finally done.
The fence ran along the outskirts of his property, scaling rolling hills and climbing over gnarled, knotty tree roots. It had been a labor of love, nearly a month long in process, that was needed more than any other odd job on the ranch.
“It’s finally finished, Choco!”
She chirped brightly, offering her neck up to be petted. Obliging, with a chuckle, his slender hand tousling her feathers gently.
“Now, if I stand here and pet you, I won’t have time to do anything else today.”
With a laundry list of to-dos and should-haves posted to his fridge he knew full well that the day should be more productive than he had already been, but his muscles cried out sweetly, begging for rest.
Smiling, he looked up to his steed, “…how does a swim sound instead?”
A resilient KWEHHHH told him all he needed to know.
He broke out in a run, legs carrying him faster than her, for now. Every tendon, every muscle pulsed with a delicious burn that bit every inch inside of him. Silver hair tossed in the wind, whipping around the sound of quick feet behind him.
“I’m….going to…win!”
Each breath cut through labored words as he peeled off his shirt. The sticky sweat glistened over his chest, cut and chiseled by manual labor.
He’d never admit it, but he knew just how much the ranch had done for him, both mentally and physically. It has given him Choco, who seemed like his only friend; she had, in fact, even led him to this place.
A grin tugged at his mouth as he lept into the spring, beating her only twice now.
