I found an empty seat on the crowded bus to sit down on. I’d been at the beach all day and I was exhausted from the heat. It was getting on in the afternoon and the sun was going down. I sat on the bus, beach bags in hand, ready for the long bus ride home.
I sat with my earphones in, and my long golden blonde hair left out and pulled over one shoulder. I closed my eyes slightly behind my sunglasses on my journey back to my London apartment.
‘Excuse me, babe. Is this seat taken?’ I must have fallen asleep because a gorgeous blonde haired boy was standing next to me. I would have never missed him if I were awake.
‘Oh, um, no.’ I managed, moving my bags off the seat next to me. The guy sat down and looked at me with a smile on his face. His beautiful eyes were piercing into mine. I smiled back and turned to face the front again.
I could tell that the boy was looking at the features on my face, the freckles on my nose and how they showed a little more after sunlight.
‘Ok, if I knew you were going to stare at me then I would have left my bags on the seat.’ I told him.
‘Well I was trying to look out the window but I can’t help it that a beautiful face was in my way.’ He said. I looked at him, a surprised expression on my face. I laughed.
‘Oh, that’s really lame and cheesy.’ I told him. I lifted my sunglasses and rested them on top of my head. He looked into my eyes and smiled.
‘But did it work?’ He winked. I contemplated. He was cute. Very cute. And he looked around my age, so it very well could have worked.
‘I’m Carla.’ I told him. He looked pleased with himself.
‘Niall.’ He told me. I smiled and turned to the front again, very aware that he kept stealing glances at me.
Within another 15 minutes we were at the stop that I needed to get off at. I stood up and asked to get past Niall. He let me out and followed me off the bus. Niall walked right beside me for a while, walking up the same street as me.
‘You know, this could be considered stalking.’ I said without looking at Niall.
‘And if you, Carla weren’t so cute then I’d probably be awkward and walking ten meters behind you and really look like a stalker.’ We both laughed.
‘Ok seriously, could you please tell me where you’re going so I don’t think you’re so creepy?’ Niall pointed ahead of us, to an apartment block, a light cream colour on the outside. I was astounded. ‘You’re going to my apartment building?’
‘I guess so.’ Niall said, smiling at me. ‘I’m still kind on in the process of moving places. My stuff was being moved in today.’ He told me.
On the remainder of the walk to my – well, I guess our – apartment block, Niall told me more about himself. As did I. We shared things about our family and why we were living in London. I never ever thought that I would be so open with someone I just met. Maybe Niall was just that someone who was different?
We got to the level of my apartment and I’d only just realised that there was in fact an apartment two down from me that had been for rent. I obviously hadn’t hit me that someone might actually be moving in there. So Niall was a new neighbour. I could deal with this.
‘So all of your stuff is still in boxes?’ I asked Niall, heading to my front door. He nodded, searching for his keys in his pocket. ‘Did you want some help unpacking?’ I offered.
‘Nah, it should be alright.’ Niall told me. ‘I’ll probably just find a space on the floor for my mattress and unpack everything tomorrow. ‘ I felt sorry for Niall, only barely having a place to sleep.
Without thinking, I spoke, a lot more confident than I would usually be. ‘Did you want to stay here for the night and I’ll help you unpack tomorrow?’ Niall looked dumbfounded.
‘Umm, are you sure?’ Niall asked politely. I nodded, opening my door and letting him in.
‘Absolutely. And as long as my stalker doesn’t kill me in the night, I might even let you sleep in my bed, rather than the couch.’ I smiled over at Niall, placing my keys and bag from the beach down next to the front door.

I awoke the next morning to Niall wrapping his arms around my from behind and snuggling his body up against mine. We’d spent last night grabbing some takeaway for dinner and watching the lame shows on TV. I rolled over to face him and settled down in his arms.
‘Oh, sorry.’ Niall said in his Irish accent, suddenly awake.
‘No, it’s fine.’ I mumbled into his chest, cuddling up to him. I saw Niall smile and I looked up at him. Before I knew it, his lips came into contact with mine, gently and carefully. I didn’t resist in kissing him back, his perfect lips in sync with my own. After a long moment of being lip locked, we broke apart, still only centimetres away from each other.
‘I just really needed to do that. Ever since I sat down on the bus yesterday.’ Niall explained, looking straight into my blue eyes.
‘No, it’s fine.’ I repeated, not able to form a decent sentence.
