Rambling about bugs

We had wasps build a small nest in our window. I was reading about it after talking to someone and apparently they are supposed to build a new nest every year?

This one showed up last year, then the wasps disappeared (died I assume) and came back again this year. It is just a little dome shaped honeycomb shape that they tend to leave their babies on. I’m kind of fascinated because it would be really interesting if they built it up against the glass so we could see inside. We don’t open the windows at the end of the house anyway because they don’t have screens and we’ve got kitties.

So now I’m curious if they found the window too difficult to work with and abandoned the nest in favor of something else. Maybe new wasps found the in-progress nest and decided to move into the used apartment instead of starting from scratch? Either way they are back and I really want to see if it turns into a large nest this year. It did not happen last year.
