In the height of healing myself I was able to work with some of the most magical beings on this planet ! These larger than life beauties neglected, abused, and discarded. A few not in great health.Me, a woman of 106 lbs at the time could truly relate. I could connect. I could see and mostly feel "the no trust" factor. Did you know? There are more discarded horses than there are dogs and cats. Horses are disposed of in the most inhumane way. Often horrifically crated mama and babys crammed into semi's ready to go to slaughter. Their meat, hide and hair still a comodity.( europe) So here we have these 1200lb terrified and terribly neglected often sick with no future ahead of them. The cost for care on one horse can avarage 400.00-1200.00 per mos. ( depending on breed) Feed, hay of all sorts, supplements, grooming, bored, sawdust for stall, tack, vet/farrier, water and feed equipment...and the upkeep for all( maintenance) Just as dogs get kennel cough a horse is susceptible to the likes of the same. They must be immediately quarantined. Any new horse being brought into a fold also needs to be quarantined for a brief time. A horse is ( in my opinion) easy to train like a dog except their recall not as adept. They are though smart stubborn nervous/anxious often funny with dispositions no 2 alike! You typically can not start to do good ground work( manners) till they are a good year. A foal you can get acclamated to human touch, follow and lead as early as 6-8 mos. A broke broke ready to ride has been trained in manners, neck and reign commands, will stand still to saddle. No buck, no bite ,will lift feet for farrier and will load easily into a trailer. So why am I telling you all this! My goal is to own a horse surrender and rescue facility. My KM DESIGNS MERCHANDISE all proceeds from those sales are going towards my ranch! "Spaghetti Farms" I will be 58 in a few weeks. July 17th. I would like to achieve this goal by next year this time!
