Here are some helpful tips on how to keep your curls poppin’ this summer so they’re not a dry mess by the fall. ☀️𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲. Drinking lots of water and eating a good, balanced diet are essential to having a healthy body and curls. You can do you and eat and drink what you please, but don’t forget that what you put in your body will effect what is seen on the outside. ☀️𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐔𝐕 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭. Sun can cause damage to more than our skin. Excessive sun exposure to your hair can result in loss of moisture and protein, even more so with color treated hair. Limit direct sun exposure and apply a UV protectant to your curls. ☀️𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞-𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠. Silicones create a barrier between your hair and environmental elements. Using a leave-in with a silicone will help keep the chemicals from pool water from completely absorbing into your hair. ☀️𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲. You might be washing your hair more frequently this summer so incorporate co-washes into your routine. But don’t forget to clarify your hair at least twice a month and to use a chelating shampoo once a month (more if you’re swimming often). ☀️𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲. Curly hair needs extra TLC especially if it has excessive sun exposure. Replenish your curls with weekly deep conditioning treatments so they stay healthy and moisturized. ☀️𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬. Sometimes you and your curls need a break. Try some protective styles such as twists, braids, puffs, buns, and head scarves. Be mindful of how long you wear the protective styles, though so you’re not getting breakage from too much tension. https://www.instagram.com/p/CRK48KBMrWG/?utm_medium=tumblr
