A month or so ago the talented artist & High School teacher @houlart asked me if I’d be interested in contributing to his exploration of the concept of Creativity with one of his classes, using any medium I’d like. I was humbled & more than willing to help. After thinking about what I could possibly offer towards the discussion of Creativity & what it means to me, I decided on impulse to record myself talking on a voice note on my iPhone in my backyard at 1:38 AM on Sunday June 25, 2023. One take, first try, off the cuff—so please excuse the scrambled thought process and intermittent pauses. Thinking I could put more effort into it than a drunk rant, I decided to supplement it with VX footage filmed during winter 2020/2021, featuring skateboarding by Dominic Randazzo, Steven Salazar, Brad Niske, Nick Zizzo, and yours truly. I also added artwork & photographs created by Jacob Taylor, Steven Salazar, Noah Wasem, Alex Hancek, Dylan Hill, Adam Zanzucchi, and myself. It’s kind of corny but it’s honest and sweet.

There was supposed to be another member of their group. Toulouse was used to threes, after all. First, it had been him and his siblings. Then, Hades and Belle. Even the children were in three.

Two was far too few.

Especially when the company was a certain Howl Pendragon. It wasn’t that Toulouse didn’t like Howl, except that he did. He had always found the sorcerer to be flamboyant to the point of parody. Garish and tacky, a peacock who didn’t know how to not flaunt his feathers.

Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do for it. Some emergency had come up in Swynlake. Lou hadn’t cared enough to hear passed: I won’t be able to come with you. He had said he would go by himself--when Belle pointed out that Howl still had his ticket.

So, here they were, at the Victoria and Albert Museum and entering into the busy lobby, prepaid tickets in hand. Lou swept right passed the main entrance, businesslike to the west of the building.

“This way,” he called to Howl, who was lingering. “The Sainsbury Gallery is through the Sackler Courtyard.”
