So I tell @brazenbells to come look at the glass heads in the dining room, and she says “Oh my god, what now?”

And I show her.

And her response is, “Oh, that’s not horrifying or scary at all! They have hats now, that’s nice. Usually when the decor in here changes it’s because it got creepier.” 

...you buy one evil little clown doll. (and some slenderbunnies. and I technically have permission now to buy a jug with a face if it’s the right kind of creepy).

I would just like to announce that after weeks of chasing down the large, aggressive, super-resilient flies that are infesting the kitchen, I now know exactly how a dark lord feels the fifteenth time the protagonist gets back up from a blow that should’ve killed him. And what it feels like is not fair.

“How many times do I have to kill you,” I hiss as a fly wafts away unharmed yet again.

The older I get the more I see how the customs of everyday life that I used to consider "extra" actually serve a practical purpose I just didn't care about when I was younger and had more energy.

Tablecloths and placemats are so straightforward when I think in terms, not of having to set the table (which is simply a chore), or even decorate it (which I enjoy), but in terms of having to clean it up after the meal (which is even more a chore and one I loathe).

I'm sure there's countless examples of things like this, where a tradition is well-established, but gets dismissed as "extra" by younger generations only to be added back in, or re-invented when the purpose it served is missed.
