JOHOR BARU, March 23:
Johor has welcomed Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s (TM) initiative to provide information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure in the state to boost foreign investor confidence, especially in Iskandar Malaysia.
State Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said TM had provided high-speed Internet connection which not only benefited foreigners in Johor but also met the needs of the younger generation (Gen-Y) in the creative industry.
“The state government appreciates TM’s services to help develop Iskandar Malaysia. Its ICT services are much sought after by the foreign community,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
“With ICT facilities and with the setting up of Iskandar Pinewood Studio in Nusajaya, the Gen-Y will turn the state into a ‘heaven’ for creative industry,” he said after a briefing on the growth of TM here today.
Johor TM deputy president Azhar Omar said the company had various programmes to provide the best Internet services, including teaming up with housing developers.
“We want the ‘smart partnership’ to include widening the high-speed Internet service, Unifi, to housing areas in the state,” he said, adding that TM had signed agreements with 20 housing developers was hoping to add at least 10 more this year.
