The camera flashed in the pair's eyes.
"See! Perfect!" Field Reporter Jim beamed, showing his brother and Damien the photo. Despite not having any photography experience, it couldn't be denied that it came out rather nice, even if it was a little blurry. The reporter looked rather smug regardless.
"Alright, alright," Damien chuckled, admitting defeat, "I'll think twice before questioning your camera work, Jim."
Since he won the election, Damien had come to expect the Jim brothers every Tuesday afternoon. At first, he thought it was for some sort of weekly mayoral update; but it turned out that the pair just wanted to hang out with him. It was actually a nice change of pace. Usually, the chat was simple, there were games sometimes, and Damien even brought the pair out for coffee one week.
"I... I'll be back in a moment," Cameraman Jim muttered as he slipped away from Damien, before hurrying out of the office. Damien, naturally, was worried.
"Is he alright? He's been quieter than usual today." Damien asked the brother, who still had his eyes on the door.
"Mayor Jim, can I ask you something?" Field Reporter Jim's voice was low, and was uncharacteristically serious. "I care about Jim, and I don't want him getting hurt."
"Hurt?" Damien repeated, blinking as the reporter turned to look at him with suspicion. Realisation struck. How on earth did Jim know about Damien's crush on his brother? "I am a reporter, Mayor Jim. I was trained by my family to see all the clues for a story. Any good reporter Jim would notice how you smile more when you talk to him, or how you always sit beside him." Damien brushed a hand through his hair with a sigh.
"I... I'm sorry. I'll be more aware of-"
"Do you love my brother, Mayor Jim?" It was surprisingly to the point. Damien's breath caught in his throat, and that seemed to be enough for Field Reporter Jim. He nodded as though all the mysteries of the world had been revealed to him. "He shares the feelings, but has always been too shy to do anything about it." That seemed to be the end of that, as the door creaked open and the man in question slipped in. Field Reporter Jim bounced over to his brother and passed over the camera. "I will be back!"
The door slammed shut, and now Damien was left alone with his crush. Wonderful.
"... That's strange." Cameraman Jim's soft voice caught Damien's attention. "The camera is facing me instead of my hand."
"Hm?" Damien walked over, peering over the younger's shoulder. Sure enough, he could see his face on the screen, albeit at a bad angle. "Can you take a photo that way?" Jim examined the camera, checking the location of the buttons.
"I-I think so... Do you want to try?" Jim looked at Damien with hopeful eyes, and the Mayor couldn't help but accept. The brother's words rang in his mind as they tried to fit into the frame. They stood beside each other, taking on the pose from earlier.
But just as the button was pressed, Damien leaned over and kissed Jim on the cheek.
Jim turned bright pink as he ducked away, and Damien suddenly regretted the action he took.
"Y-Y-You..." Jim stammered, voice cracking, "Why did you..."
"I'm sorry. That was rude of me," Damien softly interrupted. "I... I've liked you for a while, and I guess I acted on impulse." He could feel his ears start to burn as he glanced aside. "I understand that it was likely uncalled for and-"
The words vanished as he felt a hand touch his cheek.
"I've liked you for a while, too..." Jim admitted. "I didn't think you would be interested in someone like me." Damien let out a sigh, cupping his hand under Jim's chin and making them look one another in the eye.
"I can't see myself interested in anyone else." Slowly, Damien closed the gap between them in a gentle kiss. He felt hands cautiously reach around his neck, and in return he dared putting his on Jim's waist. They pulled apart, both looking rather bashful.
"So, uh... Are you free this weekend for coffee?" Damien queried with so much shake in his voice that Jim laughed.
"I'm off Saturday," he answered calmly, feeling brave enough to place a kiss on Damien's cheek.
"The Park Cafe does a special deal on Saturdays." The pair jumped as Field Reporter revealed he had been sitting on the couch. Sneaky Jim would certainly be proud.
"P-Park Cafe it is." Damien stammered with a burning face.
It might have been unexpected, but he was certainly looking forward to this date.
