OKAY. So IDK how prevalent this idea is (I literally just saw the pilot and have only gone through maybe 3-4 pages of tumblr posts in the main tag) but I saw this post casually mentioning how this shot:

Could maybe indicate that Andi is sick with that blue blood disease (Blue Lung I believe the name is).

I do not think this is the case, which I will first provide evidence for before I detail what I think this shot could be saying instead.

And that's this guy.

He very clearly has this "Blue Lung" disease, and we see three visible indications of it. A blue tongue, blue splotches on his skin, and blue blood in their spit, or just straight couching it up.

Andi does not show any of these signs. Not in this scene, and not in the spit sharing handshake scene.

But we do see this.

A blue tongue, and blue splotches on the weird e-cig thing, though no skin splotches. So its safe to say that the blue spit was probably from Sparky.

Okay, so Sparky has blue lung. Why should we care? Because I'm almost 100% sure he's Frankie's dad, not just her boss.

If I missed where this was explicitly confirmed in the pilot I will be so mad but right now I think its mainly conjecture, and I have similarly not seen anyone mention this possibility (but again, haven't seen many posts yet). So why do I think this?

"Well, ain't this a fuckn' howdy do. Andrea Franklin." (Edit: thought this was her full name but I missed a period in the subtitles. Andrea is referring to Andi) "Am I not doing right by you?" "Do you know what some nasty client affords us? A second ship. A fast one. For you. Maybe even a third. That's a whole godamn fleet with you as a captain." As he strokes her head.

And it just keeps fucking GOING. The two men off to the side in the back? Says she "lacks gratitude" and tell her to go sniff the vial of "exotics" Sparky holds, that it "might chill out your rowdy ass", which Sparky gives them a look to shut them up.

Three out of our of them have brown hair, like Sparky and Frankie.

"I love you for that hardheaded spirit, kiddo. I do, but I can't show you special treatment." Which Frankie responds with "God, you're always so dramatic in front of the boys."

"Stop biting me. Fight back proper."

In the end, he LETS THEM GO WITH THE ANDRIOD FOR SOME REASON.

And the Pièce de résistance. "And now you're throwing a tantrum like a child. You know what happens when you break the rules."

LISTEN. I know it doesn't line up exactly, but that missing tooth she had as a kid is close enough to where she's missing one as an adult, that I have to conciser the possibility that that tooth wasn't a baby tooth.

So yeah, if he's her dad, then he sucks ass. Why should it matter that he's got blue lung? Because he'd be one of the main character's dad and she doesn't seem to openly despise him, so she's probably gonna care if he gets sicker. Complicated feelings about complicated familial relationships and all that.

But I do think there's a second possibility, or alternatively a layered meaning. Maybe it's supposed to moreso symbolically foreshadow Andi getting blue lung, as well? This doesn't have any evidence besides Vibes and "why tf would we be shown a closeup of this blue spit if it wasn't going to be important somehow?"

I'm not throwing the idea out so quickly, but its relevance to Sparky is much more supported right now, so that's my "top pick" as to what that shot is saying IMO.

I like how when I first started watching star trek my parents would give each other these knowing looks. Like they were in on some sort of secret. Then when I finally admitted to having a little crush on data (which is obviously not so little anymore) they were just like. yeah. no shit. of course YOU like the impossibly good autistic coded handsome android that would never hurt a fly and not only does he paint, play many instruments, has a cat, and has a Sherlock Holmes special interest, but he's also the most intelligent person in the room as well as the strongest. Yes the kind dark haired nerd that can serenade you can also pick you up. With absolutely no struggle. fucking. OF COURSE you like him.
