Ah, but I can't have you thinking Runaan is some kind of mad rulebreaker, porpoising about in the pool whenever he likes. Oh no no. We get into the pool for a ritual, of course! There's nothing quite like a bright moonlit night for swimming a rune pattern in the pool with your agile and water-loving husband. Oh, I could make the ritual alone. But it's way more fun with Runaan's help, and besides, he loves swimming, even if it's in a little pool just off his front steps.
Who's it going to hurt if I cannonball in? Besides myself, if I stub a toe on the bottom of the pool, that is!
As for riding on my shoulders, Runaan has the same need any cat does - they all like the view from higher up. It helps them feel safe to be able to see something coming. And I'm a very sturdy base from which to see things, or to reach things like fruit growing on trees, or to water the staircase garlands, or to fetch down old cobwebs... Runaan spends plenty of time around the house enjoying my support for everyday tasks. I know not everyone can lift their assassin husband up to the rafters with one hand, but if you can, you should!
